Quartararo Eyes Present Gains Over Future V4 as Yamaha Seeks MotoGP Ascendancy
Fabio Quartararo has stated that he is currently not concentrating on the Yamaha V4, despite the recent advancements in MotoGP. The 2021 world champion is maintaining his attention on the existing Yamaha setup.
Fabio Quartararo has mentioned that he isn't currently concentrating on Yamaha's development of their V4 MotoGP engine. Instead, he is aiming to capitalize on the advancements made with the 2024 model.
Recently, Yamaha has been performing well, with Quartararo reaching Q2 in three consecutive races and finishing in the top seven in the last three Grand Prix events.
Yamaha has announced its development of a V4 engine, aiming to improve its position in MotoGP, marking a significant advancement in its performance strategy.
The Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi this weekend provides an opportunity for Yamaha's racers to head to the Iwata factory and discuss the M1 project with the engineers.
Publicly, Quartararo claims that his primary focus isn't on tracking the advancements of the V4 engine. Instead, he is concentrating on the present developments, which feature another revised chassis for the Motegi race.
When questioned about whether he had discussed the V4 with Yamaha's Japanese engineers, he responded, "At the moment, I'm not really concentrating on this engine because my focus is on the present."
"We need to put in our utmost effort to notice any progress."
Yamaha has introduced its fourth new chassis in five races as it arrives in Japan, according to my understanding.
"It's already a significant development that was not common in the past. We are hopeful that the new chassis will improve rear grip this weekend."
As we approach the upcoming weekend, Quartararo has voiced his worries about the stop-and-go characteristics of the Motegi track, considering the M1's insufficient power and grip when coming out of the corners.
He suggested, "We'll check it out this weekend."
"In this area, there's a significant increase in speed. We are aware that we're lacking some power, which will be quite important."
"However, if we manage to reach Q2 starting tomorrow, it would be great."
"We enhanced the braking system and slightly boosted the grip during braking, but not while accelerating."
"However, I believe that with significant braking, we can aim to be in the top 10 starting from Friday. Achieving this could transform our entire weekend."
"I plan to be there on Friday and anticipate making it."
