Pedro Acosta Stirs the Pot: Will Ducati Shape the MotoGP Championship Battle?
Pedro Acosta questions Martin and Bagnaia: Is Ducati set to play a role in the MotoGP championship race?
Pedro Acosta seeks to enliven the Phillip Island pre-race press briefing…
After expressing a desire for increased "spice" between MotoGP championship contenders Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin during the official press conferences, Pedro Acosta had the opportunity to pose a question on Thursday at Phillip Island.
After giving it considerable thought, the new KTM rider recorded a message intended for television, which was subsequently shown to Martin and Bagnaia: “Is there any chance that the manufacturer [Ducati] will impact the championship fight?”
The context of Acosta's question involves the situation where the present leader, Martin, is a rider for the satellite team Pramac, while Bagnaia, the reigning champion, competes for the main factory team.
The statement indicates that Martin, who races for Aprilia, and the Pramac team, associated with Yamaha, will part ways with Ducati when this season concludes.
Martin responded, "I get why they bring this up; it's on their minds! However, since it's beyond my control, I'm not going to dwell on it. My attention will be on riding."
"I certainly hope that won't be the case. However, my attention will be on what I can manage, which is giving my all while riding and aiming to maintain speed."
Bagnaia highlighted that if Ducati intended to impact the championship, they would have permitted him to compete with the new chassis he favored during the Misano test.
In an effort to prevent affecting performance, Ducati has decided not to implement any more technical updates for the rest of the season.
Bagnaia mentioned that if the team intended to assist him, he could have received improvements to his current setup as early as the Misano event.
"We experimented with a new chassis. Since it's not fully prepared for everyone to use, we haven't implemented it yet. Additionally, this approach is more appropriate."
Gigi Dall’Igna has consistently communicated this point. From the moment I began racing with Ducati and especially over the past two years, it has been evident.
"The Lenovo and Pramac factory teams receive identical packages, with no additional or fewer components. If there's any new update, it's rolled out to everyone equally."
"In my view, Ducati has adopted a unique approach unlike other manufacturers. This specific strategy is what makes Ducati highly competitive."
"I doubt they will make any modifications to the bike before the Valencia event."
Martin is aiming to become the first rider from a satellite team to clinch a championship title in the 'MotoGP' era. With only four races left in the season, he currently maintains a ten-point lead over Bagnaia.
