Pedro Acosta Stirs the Pot at Phillip Island: Queries Ducati’s Role in MotoGP Title Chase
Pedro Acosta inquires Martin, Bagnaia: Could Ducati sway the MotoGP championship outcome?
Pedro Acosta attempts to add excitement to the Phillip Island press conference before the event…
Pedro Acosta, who expressed a desire for increased rivalry and excitement in the interactions between MotoGP contenders Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin during official press events, had the opportunity to pose a question himself on Thursday at Phillip Island.
After giving it considerable thought, the newcomer from KTM addressed the TV camera with a pre-recorded statement, subsequently broadcasted to Martin and Bagnaia: "Will the maker [Ducati] sway the outcome of the championship contest?"
Acosta's inquiry is set against the context that the current team leader, Martin, competes under the Pramac satellite banner, while the defending champion, Bagnaia, represents the official factory team.
This also means that Martin (Aprilia) and Pramac (Yamaha) will part ways with Ducati when this season concludes.
Martin responded, "I get why this question comes up; it's on their minds. However, for me, it's out of my hands, so I won't dwell on it. My concentration is on riding."
"I certainly hope that's not the case. However, my attention will be on what's within my control, namely giving my all to ride and aiming for speed."
Bagnaia highlighted that if Ducati had intentions of impacting the championship, they would have permitted him to compete using the new chassis he favored during the Misano trial.
Instead, Ducati has halted all further technical advancements for this season to prevent any impact on performance.
"Bagnaia expressed, "If they were inclined to assist me, by the time we reached Misano, I could have had an improved setup than what we currently have."
"We experimented with a new chassis design. However, it's not yet suitable for widespread use, so we're holding off on implementing it. This approach is more appropriate for the time being."
"Gigi [Dall'Igna] consistently made that known. From the moment I began competing on a Ducati, and especially throughout the past two years."
"The manufacturing squads [Lenovo and Pramac] are equipped identically. No more, no less. Alternatively, if I receive any upgrades, everyone gets the same enhancements.
"I believe it's a unique approach in contrast to other [manufacturers], yet it's this very approach that has positioned Ducati so advantageously: Its competitiveness stems from that strategy."
"I'm not convinced nor do I expect them to make any adjustments to the motorcycle before Valencia concludes."
Martin, aiming to become the inaugural satellite rider to secure a victory in the 'MotoGP' era, is ahead by ten points in the championship race against Bagnaia, with only four races left.
