Pedro Acosta Shines Ahead of Motegi: Momentum Builds After Epic Indonesian Podium
Pedro Acosta is performing exceptionally well, especially following his remarkable second-place finish. I'm confident that he will adapt to this track swiftly.
GASGAS Tech3 team manager, Nicolas Goyon, remarked that newcomer Pedro Acosta is displaying exceptional performance as they prepare for Motegi this weekend. Acosta came within just 1.4 seconds of Jorge Martin and his first MotoGP win last Sunday in Mandalika.
The Japanese track is known for its intense braking zones, which typically favor the RC16 bike and Acosta, who secured third place in the Moto2 Grand Prix in Japan last year.
“We only recently managed to process our feelings and Pedro Acosta’s incredible second-place finish in Indonesia,” Goyon stated.
The final race in the initial tripleheader takes place at the renowned Motegi circuit. This track is unique due to its stop-and-go nature and is one of the few circuits approved for the use of larger brake disks from Brembo.
Bringing the bike to a halt in this spot poses a physical challenge for both the rider and the bike itself. Nevertheless, this is one of the strengths of our bike, which has performed well in previous instances.
Pedro Acosta is performing exceptionally well. I believe he will adapt to this track swiftly to maintain his current pace, and we are eagerly anticipating his return to the track.
Acosta, after being cleared in a tire pressure inquiry, officially matched his top MotoGP result and reclaimed fifth place in the world championship standings from his future teammate, Brad Binder.
Acosta expressed confidence in the upcoming race in Japan, noting that he has always performed well at the Motegi circuit in Moto2. He believes their bike is suited to the track, as indicated by the previous season's results.
"We are in high spirits and full of confidence following our strong performance in Mandalika. Our aim is to maintain this positive momentum, be competitive right from Friday, and then evaluate our opportunities."
“Excited to compete with the Japanese fans watching!”
As Acosta seeks to build momentum, his teammate Augusto Fernandez is in need of a fresh start.
"I am eagerly anticipating the trip to Japan since our performance in the last two races has been quite poor. I am determined to address our issues, get back on the motorcycle, and regain our form," stated Fernandez, who had to withdraw from the Mandalika Grand Prix due to a technical malfunction.
However, the predicted rainy conditions this weekend might benefit Fernandez, who secured seventh place in the rain-drenched 2023 Grand Prix.
"I'm a big fan of Motegi. I've had some excellent outcomes there before, including last year in MotoGP. I'm excited to see our Japanese fans and compete in Japan!" he stated.
Fernandez is anticipated to become a test rider for the Japanese company Yamaha next season.
