Oliveira’s Recovery Progressing Well, Yet No Return Date Set as Savadori Fills in at Australian MotoGP
Miguel Oliveira: On the Mend, Yet Uncertain About MotoGP Comeback
Trackhouse's Oliveira to be substituted by Lorenzo Savadori once more in Phillip Island race.
For the upcoming Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island this weekend, Aprilia's test pilot Lorenzo Savadori will once again fill in for Miguel Oliveira.
Oliveira received surgical treatment for several breaks in his right wrist, which occurred after a malfunction in the traction control system ejected him from his Aprilia during a practice session at Mandalika.
The Trackhouse team has indicated that the individual from Portugal is currently receiving physiotherapy and striving to regain complete flexibility in the wrist joint, with the goal of returning to riding at the earliest opportunity.
Miguel's recuperation is progressing smoothly, and he is scheduled for a follow-up evaluation with his healthcare providers next week.
"Currently, there's no scheduled date for his comeback to racing, and everyone at Trackhouse is hopeful for his rapid recovery and return to riding in the near future."
During his visit to the WorldSBK event in Estoril, Portugal, last weekend, Oliveira expressed his desire to return for the final race of the season in Valencia. He aims to say goodbye to Trackhouse and then initiate his journey with Pramac Yamaha through the post-race testing.
"Regrettably, Miguel won't be joining us while he's still on the mend," Trackhouse team leader Davide Brivio acknowledged. "However, we are keeping a close eye on his recuperation on a daily basis to determine when he'll be able to return."
As Oliveira remains unavailable, Aprilia's test pilot, Lorenzo Savadori, will fill in once more, joining Raul Fernandez at Trackhouse for this weekend’s event. "First and foremost, I wish Miguel a quick recovery," expressed Savadori. "As for me, it's been since 2018 that I last raced in Australia, back when I was part of the Aprilia team in the Superbike World Championship.
"I'm truly fond of the circuit and I'm eager to test our Aprilia RS-GP on this amazing track."
"Undoubtedly, we must persist in advancing the development of the 2025 motorcycle. Therefore, both at Phillip Island and in Motegi, we will be experimenting with various approaches. I'm eager to return to this circuit and collaborate once more with the Trackhouse Racing MotoGP team."
The swift and seamless design of Phillip Island has historically favored the RS-GP, yet in the previous year's Saturday Grand Prix, Aleix Espargaro had the top performance for Aprilia, securing eighth place.
At the time, Fernandez, competing on a bike from the previous season for the RNF team, finished in 16th place.
"I'm truly excited about my trip to Australia. The Philip Island Circuit stands out as a unique track with numerous high-speed turns," Fernandez expressed. "I find great pleasure in racing there, and given that we only visit once annually, my goal is to perform at my peak and savor the experience fully.
"Historically, the track has favored Aprilia, so my goal is to accumulate points to end this final stretch of the season on a high note."
