Montoya Urges Aston Martin to Sign Verstappen: The Power Move That Could Transform Their F1 Future
Juan Pablo Montoya suggests that Aston Martin should secure Max Verstappen, as doubts are raised about Adrian Newey's impact.
Formula 1 icon Juan Pablo Montoya has encouraged Aston Martin to acquire Max Verstappen, making the most of bringing Adrian Newey on board.
Last month, Aston Martin revealed that Newey was recruited to lead their technical team starting in 2025.
Lawrence Stroll has secured another prominent addition to their team as they aim to clinch a world championship title in the near future.
Following Newey's acquisition, the recruitment of Verstappen has emerged as a prominent subject of conversation.
Though Verstappen's contract concludes at the close of 2028, it's understood that several termination clauses are included within his agreement.
There's strong speculation about Verstappen's connection to Mercedes, yet Aston Martin's acquisition of Newey and Honda might entice the Dutch driver to consider switching teams.
In a conversation with Gambling Zone, Montoya remarked, “He possesses a remarkable ability to think innovatively. The achievements of Lawrence Stroll are impressive; he managed to secure the Honda partnership previously held by Red Bull, and now he has brought Newey on board. He has acquired the two key components that likely played a significant role in Red Bull's success.
The inquiry remains, will the upcoming year bring significant changes for Adrian? My perspective is doubtful. Adrian's impact will likely be felt around 2026. Looking at the mid-term outlook, Aston Martin seems to be on the path to a bright future. They're poised for an incredible position.
"The key component we're lacking is finding the appropriate person behind the wheel, someone who can effectively complete the task."
Fernando is incredible. How much longer can he continue? It seems Lance isn't leaving anytime soon.
Fernando Alonso has committed to Aston Martin through to the close of 2026.
Considering his age, it's inevitable that he will soon have to conclude his Formula 1 career.
Montoya stated: "Fernando isn't a solution for the future. The question is, when will they decide to say, 'We have Honda, we have Newey. Why not pursue Max? This would mean proposing to Max a deal similar to what Newey received, yet more advantageous.
"In that case, it becomes a project with a long-term perspective. You’re dealing with arguably the world’s top driver, or at least the best in the current championship. The more success he achieves, the greater his earnings will be over time. This is because his success would significantly increase the company's value."
