Michael Andretti: Steering into a New Chapter While Remaining the Heart of Andretti Global
Michael Andretti discusses his decision to reduce his role in team ownership, stating, "This is not a farewell." He emphasizes, "I am not leaving entirely. I will continue to act as an advisor for the team and offer assistance whenever possible."
Michael Andretti has issued a heartfelt message regarding his decision to withdraw from the daily operations of Andretti Global.
Since 2002, the ex-Formula 1 racer has served as the leading representative for Andretti Global.
Under his leadership, Andretti Global has achieved significant success across different motorsport categories, with a notable impact in IndyCar racing.
In a statement last week, Andretti revealed that he will continue his association with the organization by taking on advisory and ambassadorial duties, instead of participating in the team's day-to-day operations.
In the last couple of years, Andretti has attempted to join Formula 1 but faced rejection after the current 10 teams opposed his application.
In an open letter, Andretti expressed: "Racing has been in my blood since birth. Growing up, my life was all about speed and competition. Being the proud son of a racing legend set high expectations, and once I embarked on my journey, I was relentless in my pursuit of achievement."
"I was motivated to drive because of my deep love and enthusiasm for the sport, yet my victories were driven by the dread of defeat. What began as my father's dream during his youth transformed into my fate, and together we established both a legacy and a family enterprise."
"As my time behind the wheel began to decrease, I focused on building a place that would motivate upcoming drivers to exceed my own speed. With the support of a dedicated and skilled team, I am confident that we have achieved this goal. Over the last twenty years, our team has experienced both significant triumphs and challenging setbacks."
"Our expansion on a worldwide scale has reached an unmatched level in motorsport, and we've witnessed some of the finest racers proudly representing the Andretti emblem."
"Some of my fondest memories have been made while leading this organization, and I take great pride in what we have accomplished. However, years of intense work have required sacrifices, and after careful consideration over the past few months, I have decided to step down."
"I've been involved in daily operations even before retiring from racing, and now it's the moment to hand over responsibilities to my colleague and friend, Dan Towriss."
He mentioned, “In choosing this path for myself, my family, and the team, I understand that this might come as a surprise to many, particularly to you, the fans, who I consider part of my extended family.
"Many of you have either seen me mature over the years or have grown up with me, and regardless of the decisions we've made as a team, you've consistently supported us. I fully recognize that Andretti fans across generations are truly exceptional."
"It is a privilege to be seen as someone who fans admire, look up to, and consider a friend. I am grateful for your unwavering support over the years, and for your sometimes candid feedback."
"I will not be leaving entirely; instead, I will take on the role of an advisor for the team, ready to assist whenever possible. Although my presence at the racetrack may be less frequent, rest assured that my dedication to the sport and my steadfast support for our team and its members will not waver."
"I wish that Andretti fans will continue to back our team with the same passion and dedication that you have generously given to me and my family throughout the years."
"I'm looking forward to having more time with my wonderful family, especially my 10-year-old twins. I'm eager to enjoy my new role as a grandfather and to try new experiences both personally and with my various business ventures. This isn't a farewell; it's simply the start of a new chapter."
