McLaren Welcomes Brando Badoer: Former Ferrari Driver’s Son Joins F1 Development Programme
McLaren has included the son of a former Ferrari driver in their Formula 1 development program. This addition marks another driver joining McLaren's F1 development initiative.
McLaren has revealed that Brando Badoer has joined their Formula 1 driver development program after being assessed for a year.
Brando is the child of Luca Badoer, an ex-Ferrari Formula 1 driver, who made his final appearance with the team in 2009 when he temporarily replaced Felipe Massa.
The Italian driver, who is 18 years old, is currently racing in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine.
Badoer holds the fifth position in the overall drivers' rankings, having achieved seven podium finishes.
In 2025, the Italian driver is set to advance to FIA Formula 3 by joining the Prema team.
In a conversation about the announcement, Badoer expressed his enthusiasm by stating, "I am thrilled to become a part of the McLaren Driver Development program. This is an incredible chance to be associated with a team that boasts a remarkable history in racing and a strong track record in nurturing skilled drivers."
"I am set to race in the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship with Prema Racing, which will aid in my development. I want to express my gratitude to the entire McLaren team for their backing."
"I'm eager to gain insights from the team's mentorship and compete while wearing their legendary colors."
Stephanie Carlin, the leader of McLaren's F1 business operations and their development program, expressed her enthusiasm by saying, "We are thrilled to have Brando join our Driver Development program."
Over the last year, we have monitored him closely and have been impressed by his debut performances in the challenging Formula Regional championship. Consequently, it was logical to activate our option and include him in the program on a full-time basis.
"We are excited to watch him race in the papaya colors and aid his growth as he progresses to compete in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Prema Racing."
