Luca Marini Expresses Optimism for Honda’s MotoGP Future Despite Current Challenges
Luca Marini believes the Honda MotoGP squad is making significant progress and is headed in the right direction. He expressed that being part of the team offers a unique perspective.
Luca Marini is of the opinion that Honda is making significant progress in the development of its MotoGP motorcycle currently, and he thinks the path they are taking is highly positive.
The 2024 campaign has proven challenging for Honda, as the Japanese brand has only managed to accumulate 56 points in the manufacturers' rankings by the time of this weekend's Australian Grand Prix.
Among its team of four racers, an RC213V has only made it into the top 10 once on a race day, thanks to Johann Zarco's ninth-place finish at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
Marini, transitioning from the VR46 Ducati team to fill Marc Marquez's spot at Gresini for the 2024 season, finds himself at the bottom of the Honda group in 23rd place, having accumulated only seven points and achieving his highest finish of 12th at the San Marino event.
Recent improvements made to the Honda bike at Misano have enhanced its performance, allowing Zarco to advance to Q2 in two out of the last three races.
Despite the outcome numbers not being pleasing to look at, Marini shares that his personal sentiments are much more optimistic.
"Marini described his experience to the official MotoGP podcast, noting, 'It feels different from the inside.'"
"By the time Sunday evening comes to an end, everyone inevitably checks the outcomes, only to find themselves trailing behind, in a less than ideal position."
"However, from my perspective, there have been significant positive changes, and I've experienced a great deal of progress since the season started."
"The engineering team is performing excellently. I truly appreciate their support, and together, we are achieving significant milestones and attaining a high standard."
"The leadership is commendable, yet we require more time as we're contending in the world's toughest category within the motorcycling realm, facing off against outstanding producers."
"However, we represent Honda and we are determined to return to winning ways."
Transitioning to a factory rider from a satellite position in 2024 has introduced a myriad of new obstacles for Marini, particularly in terms of his interaction with Honda's engineers from Japan.
"He believes that initially, there's a noticeable difference in how Europeans and Japanese communicate."
"In communicating in Japanese, it's important to choose your phrases cautiously and make an effort to articulate at a slower pace."
"At times, I talk too fast, and then perhaps they miss out on something."
"At the beginning of the season, I focused on personal development, particularly on enhancing my communication skills with the team. Those with more experience emphasized the significance of mastering this skill quickly."
Currently, I'm in high spirits engaging in conversation with them, making an effort to articulate everything clearly as I experienced it while riding the bike.
"Thus, it involves sharing my emotions, as well as occasionally offering my thoughts on new developments and areas for enhancement post-practice, with an aim to establish a list of priorities."
"I observed that this method was highly effective and provided us with a clear path for the bike's development throughout the season."
