Lando Norris Applauds FIA’s Crackdown on Red Bull’s ‘Bib Trick’ Amid F1 Rule Controversy
Lando Norris: Red Bull’s Bib Device a Clear Violation of F1 Regulations
Lando Norris commends FIA for addressing Red Bull’s controversial F1 car bib device.
Lando Norris has commended the FIA, the governing body of Formula 1, for stepping in regarding a gadget that Red Bull confessed to using on their vehicle.
Red Bull has decided to modify their vehicle following complaints from competitors, who informed the FIA about a mechanism in the RB20. They believed this feature might adjust the ride height of the car's front floor while in parc ferme, which would violate Formula 1 regulations.
Before the United States Grand Prix this weekend, Red Bull acknowledged the presence of this device on their vehicle, but insisted they have not engaged in any wrongdoing.
A senior representative from the Red Bull team confirmed, "The component does exist, but it cannot be accessed once the car is completely built and operational." They added, "In our extensive communications with the FIA, this issue was discussed, and we have established a future plan."
Norris suggested that the stricter regulations might benefit McLaren in his pursuit of closing the gap with championship contender Max Verstappen, who currently leads by 52 points with six grand prix events and three sprint races left in the season.
Lando Norris mentioned on Thursday in Austin that having the feature on your car is one aspect, but how extensively you utilize and leverage it is a different matter, and that's something we're unaware of.
"If this device has indeed been beneficial to them and utilized as people assume, it might eventually work to our advantage. However, when discussing such matters, it's unlikely that it has directly contributed to securing numerous pole positions or victories."
"I believe it won't significantly alter the overall situation. However, when we examine specific qualifying sessions and notice the narrow margins in some races this year—sometimes just hundredths or even thousandths of a second—you could argue that this might have influenced outcomes in one way or another."
"I believe it's positive that the FIA is taking this action. There's a clear distinction between straightforward rules like these and the act of challenging limits, inventing new concepts, and innovating within the permitted area for innovation."
"I believe McLaren has excelled in this area. We're careful not to exceed those boundaries."
