Kimi Antonelli: Poised for Success as Mercedes’ Newest Prodigy in 2025 F1 Season
Kimi Antonelli is considered "exceptionally ready" to commence his Formula 1 journey with Mercedes in 2025.
"It's essential that he's fully prepared and geared up for action."
Ex-Formula 1 racer David Coulthard is of the opinion that Andrea Kimi Antonelli is in the optimal condition to kick off his inaugural season with Mercedes in the coming year.
In the previous month's Italian Grand Prix, it was revealed that Antonelli will take over for Lewis Hamilton in 2025.
The Italian teenager, aged 18, is set to ascend to Formula 1 next year, having competed in single-seater races for just one season.
In the FIA Formula 2 series, Prema has struggled to perform competitively. However, Antonelli has demonstrated moments of exceptional skill, consistently outperforming Ferrari's young talent and the 2025 Haas team recruit, Oliver Bearman.
Antonelli has been actively involved in Mercedes' testing schedule, taking their previous models for several test drives.
He is anticipated to return as a driver for the team in an FP1 session in 2024 as well.
On the Formula for Success podcast, Coulthard discussed Antonelli's advantageous stance for his Formula 1 introduction.
"Coulthard pointed out that Antonelli is likely the most ready, given his extensive experience testing older cars and having the chance to learn by observing a seven-time world champion closely."
"He needs to be fully prepared and on his toes. It's definitely a tough competition, especially with George Russell, who has consistently outpaced the other Mercedes drivers in single-lap speeds this year."
"Lewis has had his doubts about the tyres among other things, but at the end of the day, you have to work with what you have and simply move forward."
F1 broadcaster Alex Jacques remarked, "Indeed, should Kimi Antonelli manage to outperform George Russell in qualifying, it will certainly make everyone take immediate and keen notice."
"Next year is filled with engaging stories, and the newcomers are certainly among them."
