Jos Verstappen Criticizes F1 Stewarding: Calls for FIA Review Over Alleged ‘Conflict of Interest’ After Mexico GP Penalties
Jos Verstappen criticizes F1 stewards post-Mexico, hinting at potential "conflict of interest"
"The FIA needs to carefully examine who they appoint as stewards and ensure that there is no potential for a conflict of interest to arise."
Jos Verstappen has criticized the F1 stewards following two separate 10-second penalties given to Max Verstappen during the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen received penalties totaling 20 seconds due to two separate incidents involving his Formula 1 championship competitor, Lando Norris, at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

The Dutch driver ended up in sixth place, and with Norris taking second, his advantage in the championship has been reduced to 47 points.
The sanctions imposed on Verstappen in Mexico were harsher than those he faced at any other time this year. This is especially noteworthy because, in Austin, he avoided any penalties after pushing Norris off the track during the first lap.
In an interview with the Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Jos stood up for his son's driving sai-allcreator.com">kills, explaining that "he must drive this way" because the RB20 is currently lacking in competitiveness.
Jos expressed that while discussions could go on indefinitely, ultimately it doesn't matter because Max should drive according to his own preferences.
"He must take these actions since the car's performance falls short, and he's putting in every effort to secure the championship."
A man aged 52 implied that the officials worai-allcreator.com">king in Mexico have a dislike for Max, which may explain the severe punishments.
In Mexico, Johnny Herbert, who used to work as an analyst for Sky, served as the FIA's driver steward.
"However, Max won't alter his approach to driving just because there are a few stewards around who already have a negative opinion of him," Jos commented.
The FIA needs to carefully evaluate the selection of stewards, ensuring that their appointments do not suggest any potential conflicts of interest.
"From past drivers who may feel more empathetic towards specific racers or teams."
According to Max, the crucial issue is that the fundamental design of the car is flawed.
"Observing his teammate's performance, it was clear that even Haas outpaced Red Bull during the race."

Yuki Tsunoda’s Pre-Race Jitters: US Customs Ordeal Nearly Sends F1 Star Home Before Las Vegas Grand Prix
Yuki Tsunoda Almost Deported Due to US Customs Incident
Formula 1 driver Yuki Tsunoda shared that he faced a challenging situation with Customs authorities upon his arrival in the United States before the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Yuki Tsunoda feared he might not be allowed into the United States to participate in the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix due to a difficult experience at Customs.
The Japanese RB driver mentioned that upon his arrival in the United States for this weekend's race in Las Vegas, Border Control officials subjected him to additional questioning. This made him anxious about the potential risk of being sent back home.

"After numerous conversations, they eventually allowed me entry," Tsunoda shared with reporters in Las Vegas.
"I almost had to return home. Everything's fine now, but fortunately, I'm still here. I was with my physiotherapist on the trip. Naturally, when you go through customs, you have to do it alone, correct?"
The official unexpectedly led me into the room, and during our conversation, I asked if I could bring along the individual I was planning to travel with. Perhaps he could assist in clarifying some more details about myself and the circumstances in Formula 1.
"They wouldn't let me bring them in or contact anyone. I wanted to reach out to the team or perhaps F1 for assistance, but inside that room, there was nothing I could do."
Tsunoda was taken aback by the situation, especially since he had made sure all his visas were in order and had encountered no issues on his earlier trips across the United States this year.
"I handled all the visa arrangements myself," he said. "It's been unfortunate. I suppose with the previous three instances, I was able to enter without any issues. So it was unexpected to be stopped and have an in-depth conversation this time."
The young man, aged 24, believes that his attire might have caused the authorities to question his identity as a Formula 1 driver.
"I'm not sure, perhaps I was in pajamas, and the color might resemble something else. It just seems like they were putting a lot of pressure on me, and I was unable to speak up," he explained.
"I feel that if I speak up, it might cause more problems for me. Fortunately, everything went well."

Sergio Perez Denounces Father’s Homophobic Comments on Ralf Schumacher: A Call for Respect in F1
Sergio Perez criticizes his father's anti-gay comments directed at former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher, describing the remarks as a "mistake."
Sergio Perez has expressed disapproval of his father, Antonio Perez Garibay, for making homophobic comments about former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher.
Schumacher, a Formula 1 driver from 1997 to 2007, announced during the summer that he was in a relationship with someone of the same sex. The brother of Michael, a seven-time world champion, received a great deal of support for his decision to publicly identify as gay, with Lewis Hamilton among those offering encouragement.

In reaction to remarks made by the former grand prix champion, now a commentator, regarding Perez's prospects with Red Bull, Perez Garibay seemed to mock Schumacher's sexual orientation.
A former Formula 1 racer, who has now become a journalist, initially claimed that Checo was no longer with Red Bull. The next week, Schumacher publicly revealed his sexual orientation, according to statements made by Perez Garibay to the Mexican press.
"I'm not sure if he had romantic feelings for Checo. Do you get what I mean? There are a lot of odd aspects here. It's hard to tell if he's a journalist, a lady, or a gentleman. However, his opinion holds no weight, not due to Checo Perez, but because of the remarks made by his ex-wife about him."
Perez was questioned on whether he planned to discuss his father's remarks made before the Las Vegas Grand Prix taking place this weekend.
"Without a doubt, I completely disagree with everything he said," Perez mentioned in an interview with Sky Sports F1.
"In my opinion, he made an error in that aspect. Although I disagree with all of his opinions, I have no influence over what my father chooses to express. I can only manage my own words."
"In my view, it's crucial for the sport to demonstrate that any incidents occurring during races should stay confined to the track. This perspective is vital, as we ought to serve as role models for others globally."
Schumacher stated that he "holds no anger" towards Perez's father despite his comments.
In a social media post, he expressed his unwavering support for his son, stating that as a father, he would fully back him and offer assistance.
In terms of style, I would approach things differently, but we are familiar with Mr. Perez and his emotional nature. Because of this, I don't hold any anger towards him. Nevertheless, I am convinced that performance on the track would serve as a more compelling argument.

Max Verstappen ‘Surprised’ by Sudden F1 Race Director Shakeup Amidst Growing Driver Concerns
Max Verstappen expressed his astonishment at the abrupt timing of the decision to replace Niels Wittich as the F1 race director.
Max Verstappen has shared his astonishment over the unexpected exit of Niels Wittich, the F1 race director.
The FIA, which oversees Formula 1, revealed that Wittich has resigned from his position effective immediately. This announcement came just before the Las Vegas Grand Prix, with the organization mentioning that the German had left to "explore new opportunities."

However, Wittich asserted that he did not leave of his own accord but was instead dismissed with three races remaining. Rui Marques, the race director for Formula 2 and Formula 3, has taken his place.
The FIA's decision has caught F1 drivers off guard, among them three-time world champion Verstappen. In an interview with Sky Sports F1, he expressed his surprise by saying, "I think everyone was taken aback to see this happen with just three races remaining. But you'll need to question the FIA about it."
After the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association issued a message calling on the FIA to handle its members "as adults." They also requested that President Mohammed Ben Sulayem be mindful of his tone and choice of words when addressing or discussing the drivers.
Max Verstappen, on the brink of securing his fourth straight world championship title in Las Vegas this weekend, is eager for advancements to occur promptly.
Verstappen explained that they aimed to distribute a letter to ensure everyone understood their concerns and objectives, and they hoped to see the outcomes of this effort.
"Currently, no changes have occurred. The FIA has been busy with various matters that needed their attention. We'll monitor how things unfold in the upcoming races and maintain our dialogue with them as we move forward."
During the pre-event press conference, George Russell, who serves as a director for the GPDA, mentioned that the FIA has not yet replied to their letter. He also confessed that the drivers are "a bit tired of the entire situation."
"It appears to be a bit tougher to see changes happen or commitments honored," he remarked. "Perhaps the FIA or its president didn't fully grasp the depth of our concerns."
Throughout this year's 20 races, as well as those from the previous year, we've had discussions on various subjects. All the drivers seem to share similar views; we understand what we desire from the sport and have noticed the paths it's been taking. We believe some adjustments are necessary in certain areas and are eager to collaborate with the FIA to address these concerns.
"We believed that the president has not been doing that at all."

McLaren Reverses Team Orders as Lando Norris’s F1 Title Hopes Dim: Focus Shifts Back to Equal Footing with Oscar Piastri
McLaren is planning to change its approach to team orders following the decline of Lando Norris's slim chances at winning the F1 title.
Oscar Piastri mentioned that McLaren has altered their approach regarding team orders now that Lando Norris's chances of winning the F1 championship are essentially gone.
Lando Norris's hopes of clinching the world championship this year took a major hit when he dropped from first place to sixth at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Meanwhile, his title contender, Max Verstappen, made a remarkable comeback to win the race, despite starting from 17th position.

Verstappen increased his lead in the championship standings to 62 points with only three races left, effectively dashing Norris's chances of securing his first drivers' title this year.
Max Verstappen is set to become the world champion at the Las Vegas Grand Prix this weekend if he finishes the race with a lead of at least 60 points.
With Norris's championship aspirations dwindling, McLaren has decided not to require Piastri, who stepped aside for Norris to secure the sprint victory in Brazil, to act as a secondary driver any longer.
When questioned about whether he would now be on equal terms with Norris, Piastri responded to reporters in Las Vegas by saying, "Essentially, yes."
"There are still a few particular situations where my assistance might be required. However, in most cases, things have returned to their usual state."
"The chances in the drivers’ championship are quite narrow, but the constructors’ championship is definitely still within reach for us."
"It's not finalized yet, which is the most important aspect. There are only a few particular situations where I might still assist if requested, but my focus for the weekend is on achieving victory."
McLaren holds a 36-point advantage over Ferrari in the constructors' championship standings, with Red Bull trailing in third place, 49 points behind.
Though Piastri was content to assist Norris, he emphasized his intention to avoid being in a similar situation next year.
The Australian mentioned that, truthfully, they didn't feel too let down about letting it go.
Naturally, winning the sprint would have been fantastic, but it is quite a different situation compared to a grand prix.
"I demonstrated what I set out to achieve by securing the pole position, and that accomplishment was primarily for my own satisfaction."
Securing the top position in the sprint qualifying was perhaps more gratifying for me, even if I had emerged victorious in the sprint itself.
"I was confident that I executed the sprint correctly, which is beneficial for me."
"I'm glad that we no longer need to deal with those issues as frequently, and clearly, next year, my goal is to ensure that I'm not in a situation where the championship standings make me vulnerable to that."
"In truth, the only instance I really had to lend a hand was during that event in Brazil, and since then, there hasn't been anything significant. It's been more discussion than actual activity on the track."

Red Bull and Ferrari Adjust F1 Cars as FIA Enforces Skid Block Clampdown Ahead of Las Vegas Grand Prix
Red Bull and Ferrari adjust their F1 vehicles following FIA's skid block regulations
Leading F1 teams, Red Bull and Ferrari, are said to be affected by the FIA's latest enforcement just before the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
According to reports, Red Bull and Ferrari are some of the teams that have been required to modify their Formula 1 vehicles for the Las Vegas Grand Prix due to the most recent enforcement actions by the FIA.
The FIA, which oversees Formula 1, has released a technical directive that takes effect immediately before this weekend's Las Vegas race. This move aims to stop teams from taking advantage of a rule loophole related to plank wear.

According to the German outlet Auto Motor und Sport, a new technical directive from the FIA will ban teams from using "special protective plates that were installed by about half of the teams" on the skid blocks.
Motorsport and The Race have both covered the FIA's crackdown, noting that Ferrari and Red Bull are among the teams reportedly impacted. According to The Race, "at least half of the teams on the grid are thought to have responded to the situation."
As reported by The Race, Ferrari has implemented some adjustments to their vehicle, whereas Red Bull has introduced slight changes following the FIA's technical directive.
After the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Red Bull is said to have raised concerns with the FIA. While there was no indication of any illegal activities, the governing body of F1 has acted to prevent any potential exploitation of ambiguous areas in the rules.
Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari faced disqualification from the United States Grand Prix last year after post-race inspections revealed that their vehicles had surpassed the permissible plank wear limit.

Aston Martin Reveals Reasons Behind Dan Fallows’ Departure Amidst Disappointing F1 Season
Aston Martin clarifies the circumstances surrounding Dan Fallows' departure from his role as F1 technical director.
Aston Martin's performance director, Tom McCullough, has explained the factors that led to Dan Fallows leaving the F1 team.
At the beginning of this month, Aston Martin revealed that Fallows, who had come on board in 2022 after leaving Red Bull, had stepped down from his position as the technical director of the team located in Silverstone.

Bob Bell, the executive director, will temporarily take over his role. Meanwhile, Enrico Cardille, previously the technical director at Ferrari, is set to join Aston Martin next year. He will work with Adrian Newey, who has been appointed as the managing technical partner.
In anticipation of the Las Vegas Grand Prix happening this weekend, McCullough suggested that Fallows was let go because of Aston Martin's disappointing results this season.
"The team's performance this year has not met our expectations," McCullough stated to the press in Las Vegas. "We haven't achieved the desired results, and ultimately, that has been a choice made by the team."
For the past two or three years, I've worked closely alongside Dan, who has been a significant influence on the progress of both the '22 and '23 cars. Frankly, he's contributed immensely to the team.
Working with him has been quite enjoyable from that perspective. However, in 2024, we have not met the performance expectations on the track that we set for ourselves and aimed to achieve.
Crafting these vehicles has been challenging, and at the end of the day, it's an industry driven by performance. Consequently, the team has chosen to implement a few alterations.
Aston Martin had an impressive beginning to the year 2023, positioning themselves as the closest rivals to Red Bull after the winter season, frequently competing for podium finishes.
Since then, the team's performance has significantly declined, and continuous development issues have stalled their advancement.
Throughout most of 2024, Aston Martin has been positioned in a remote fifth spot in the constructors' championship.
Both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have been unable to secure a position above fifth place.

Ferrari on the Hunt for New Reserve Driver: Opportunity to Work Alongside Lewis Hamilton in 2025
Opportunity arises for a reserve driver position under Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 F1 season
Ferrari is set to recruit a new reserve driver to support Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Ferrari is on the hunt for a new reserve driver for the upcoming Formula 1 season following Robert Shwartzman's decision to leave the team.
Shwartzman had spent several years with Ferrari, progressing through different racing levels and ultimately securing second place behind Oscar Piastri in the FIA Formula 2 championship.

Without securing a spot to race in Formula 1, Shwartzman has continued his association with Ferrari by serving as a reserve driver and taking part in several Friday practice sessions.
Shwartzman is fully departing from Ferrari to focus on a career in IndyCar, resulting in an open position.
He posted online, saying, "Being a driver for Scuderia Ferrari has been an incredible chapter in my life! I'll always remember the excitement of my first drive in a Scuderia Ferrari F1 car."
"I will forever appreciate each moment and every lap, and it has been an incredible honor to collaborate with some of the most skilled and intelligent individuals in the racing world. I am certain that my experiences with the team have molded me into a more proficient driver, and I am prepared to take all these memories along with me as I embark on my next journey."
A heartfelt thank you to all the fans who have consistently shown their support throughout the years. I also want to express my gratitude to everyone in the team for their belief in me, their encouragement, and their assistance on this journey. I am deeply appreciative. Looking forward to seeing you soon, and go Ferrari!
Although Ferrari continues to include Antonio Giovinazzi in their roster of drivers, there is speculation that they are considering alternative choices.
Zhou Guanyu, who currently drives for Sauber, was believed to be a candidate for the role of reserve driver at Ferrari.
A recent article from Auto Racer suggests that there is "no indication" of Zhou being considered.
Arthur Leclerc, who is the sibling of Charles Leclerc, might step in to replace Shwartzman.
Throughout 2024, Arthur participated in the European Le Mans series.

Martin Brundle Debunks Claims of McLaren’s Lack of Support for Lando Norris Amid Championship Chase
Disagreements arise over claims McLaren hasn't backed Lando Norris: 'He has received all necessary support'
"There’s a belief that McLaren has provided Lando with all the support he required, along with a highly competitive car."
Martin Brundle, who serves as a commentator for Sky Sports F1, does not agree with claims that McLaren has failed to back Lando Norris in his pursuit of the world championship this year.
With three races remaining, Norris trails Max Verstappen by 62 points.

Aged 25, this driver is the sole competitor who can, by mathematical chance, prevent Verstappen from clinching his fourth F1 drivers' championship at the Las Vegas Grand Prix this coming weekend.
One reason why Norris isn't more competitive with Verstappen in the championship standings is that McLaren didn't fully support him as their leading driver until the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in September.
In the Austria sprint race, Norris fell to third place, losing a point to Oscar Piastri, after trying to overtake Verstappen.
He had to let Piastri pass him during the race in Hungary, allowing the Australian driver to secure his first-ever Formula 1 win.
During the race in Monza, Piastri aggressively pursued Norris right from the beginning, which exposed him to an attack from Charles Leclerc.
If those three situations had turned out positively for Norris, along with some luck regarding events in Austria, the USA, and Mexico, he might have been a significantly bigger contender in the championship battle.
In an interview with Sky Sports News, Brundle expressed that McLaren has been backing Norris and believes they shouldn't sideline a promising talent like Piastri by issuing team orders too early.
"Definitely not," Brundle stated. "Lando made it clear that he had no interest in winning a world championship if it meant his teammate had to keep giving him advantages."
"McLaren understands that they cannot simply treat Oscar Piastri as a secondary driver and must give him every chance to succeed, as failing to do so can be mentally challenging and damaging to his reputation and credibility."
McLaren is set to win their first Formula 1 constructors' championship since 1998.
Brundle believes that McLaren has likely gained significant insights from their recent resurgence to the top of the rankings.
He mentioned that McLaren has gained some valuable experience this year, as they are leading the pack for the first time in many years.
"I believe they have not hindered Lando in any way. They have provided him with full support and a car that has been extremely quick."

At 39 years old, he has secured six out of his seven championships with Mercedes over a span of 12 seasons.
Although Hamilton has secured two victories for the team in 2024, the last year has been challenging for the seven-time world champion.
George Russell has outperformed Hamilton in the qualifying rounds.
During races, Hamilton has outperformed, yet the erratic behavior of the Mercedes W15 F1 car has posed challenges for both drivers.
Before the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix this weekend, Toto Wolff expressed Mercedes' dedication to concluding their remarkable partnership with Hamilton on a positive note, as they aim to gain momentum for the following season.
Wolff mentioned that the team is on its way to Las Vegas, prepared to face the last three races of the season. He emphasized their determination to finish the year on a high note and deliver memorable performances as 2024 comes to an end.
"We are excited about the upcoming races, hoping to conclude our amazing journey with Lewis on a positive note, and eager to gain momentum for 2025."
Looking ahead to Las Vegas, he expressed his anticipation by saying, “We are thrilled to be heading back to Las Vegas. Last year, F1 delivered an amazing spectacle, with the sight of F1 cars speeding down the Strip at night being a standout moment of the season. The chance to hit 180 mph on such a legendary stretch of road in a powerful Mercedes-AMG GT R was an opportunity I couldn't resist."
I had the privilege of giving some of our partners thrilling rides around the track, and it was a memorable experience for me that I hope they also cherish.
The track and surrounding conditions posed an intriguing challenge for drivers and teams alike, while also delivering thrilling races and an engaging Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen: F1 Genius Poised for Historic Fourth Title in Las Vegas Despite Challenges
Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft has lavished compliments on Max Verstappen, arguing that he has shown brilliance even without having the fastest car. This comes as Verstappen is on the brink of potentially securing his fourth championship title at the Las Vegas Grand Prix this weekend.
David Croft from Sky Sports F1 has praised Max Verstappen, calling him an "exceptional driver" as the Las Vegas Grand Prix approaches this weekend.
Max Verstappen has the opportunity to clinch his fourth straight Formula 1 drivers' championship in Las Vegas this weekend, provided he finishes ahead of Lando Norris from McLaren.

The driver from the Netherlands has the potential to be only the second person in Formula 1 history, following Sebastian Vettel, to achieve four consecutive championship victories from the start of their career.
Despite Verstappen holding a 62-point lead over Norris, McLaren has demonstrated superior performance since the Imola race.
During an appearance on the Sky Sports F1 podcast before the Vegas event, Croft commended Verstappen for his achievements in 2024, especially given that he hasn't been driving the quickest car.
Croft remarked, "Should Max Verstappen secure another victory in Vegas like he achieved last year and subsequently clinch the championship, it would be outstanding. Kudos to him."
"What an outstanding display. Becoming the world champion in a year when he doesn't have the quickest car is truly remarkable. The Red Bull's performance is somewhere between Max and Checo Perez, though it leans more towards Max's side. Achieving this without the fastest car makes for an incredible season."
"Max is an exceptional talent behind the wheel. While there's plenty of discussion about his conduct both on and off the circuit, it's important to take a moment to acknowledge his brilliance as a driver. Max Verstappen is a remarkable world champion who truly merits being a four-time titleholder."
Verstappen winning the title in Vegas is not assured.
This year, Red Bull faced difficulties maintaining speed at several street circuits, such as those in Monaco and Azerbaijan.
In Las Vegas, Ferrari is anticipated to perform admirably, whereas McLaren has shown consistent strength throughout most of the season.
Nevertheless, Croft believes that Verstappen will secure the championship this weekend.
Croft mentioned that if he has a competitive car next year, he is definitely on track to become a five-time champion.
"Max is undoubtedly one of the most exceptional F1 drivers in history, and we must ensure that nothing overshadows that fact. We haven't often had the opportunity to truly focus on and talk about Max the champion."
"I'm confident he'll secure the victory in Las Vegas. I believe everything will be settled at that point."

Changing Gears: Toto Wolff’s ‘Horror’ Decision and Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari Leap
Toto Wolff was ready to make a difficult choice regarding Lewis Hamilton: “I was willing to go through with it. However, it would have been a nightmare for both of us.”
Toto Wolff disclosed that he was ready to inform Lewis Hamilton that he was too old for his Mercedes F1 contract to be extended if Hamilton had decided to switch to Ferrari.
On the night before the season started in February, it was revealed that Hamilton made a surprising move to Ferrari, ending his longstanding relationship with Mercedes.

Hamilton, having secured six out of his seven championship titles with Mercedes, continues to hold the record as the most successful driver-team partnership in the history of the sport.
In the past few years, Mercedes has found it challenging to fully understand and adapt to the ground effect regulations in Formula 1.
In recent weeks, much attention has been focused on Hamilton leaving Mercedes, spurred by the publication of a new book called ‘Inside Mercedes F1: Life in the Fast Lane’.
In the book, Wolff stated that "everyone has an expiration date," implying that Hamilton might no longer be at his peak, and his exit avoided a challenging discussion in the future.
Although Wolff mentioned that the remark was taken out of context, the head of Mercedes did acknowledge that he was prepared to let Hamilton know that his contract would not be extended.
During a conversation with The Guardian, Wolff expressed, "I would have gone through with it. However, it would have been a nightmare for both me and him."
"Advantages of Transition"
Wolff decided to elevate Andrea Kimi Antonelli, an 18-year-old prodigy, to take Hamilton's spot.
The Austrian thinks that Hamilton's choice to depart brings evident "advantages in change."
“There’s an emotional aspect since we’ve shared this journey,” Wolff explained. “While the friendship will evolve, the intensity of our emotions will remain strong. In fact, this marks the beginning of a new kind of friendship with Lewis.”
"In my professional view, change always brings advantages. We've implemented fresh regulations, reorganized our structure, and are entering a new phase with our experienced driver, George Russell, who is now 27, and our younger driver, Kimi Antonelli, who is 18. Combined, their ages are just a bit more than Lewis, who will turn 40 in January. This is really thrilling."

FIA’s Controversial Race Director Swap Stirs Concerns Ahead of Las Vegas Grand Prix
FIA's Race Director Change Before Las Vegas Grand Prix Called "Insane" | "Experience is Essential"
The FIA's choice to replace race directors just before the Las Vegas Grand Prix has been termed "insane."
David Croft, the F1 commentator for Sky Sports, is puzzled by the FIA's abrupt choice to switch race directors just before the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix.
The FIA made a surprising announcement last week that Niels Wittich would be resigning from his position as race director, a job he had been performing since 2022.

A day later, it was revealed that Wittich had been dismissed, a fact he verified to the German outlet Motorsport-Magazin.
Current F2 and F3 race director Rui Marques has taken over Wittich's position.
In response to the announcement, Croft referred to the alteration as "insane."
"To begin with, he hasn't resigned; he's been dismissed," Croft stated on the Sky Sports F1 podcast. "He acknowledged this himself and communicated it to several reporters."
The FIA will not allow the race director to leave with only three races remaining unless there is a valid reason from their perspective. Introducing a new race director at this stage is challenging. Although Rui Marques has performed admirably in F2 and F3, he has never held the position of race director in F1.
"Attempting that prior to a street race in Las Vegas, especially one set at night, with numerous chances for mishaps, seems unwise. This type of race demands seasoned expertise, a composed mindset, and someone who isn't new to the role. Honestly, I find it quite astonishing."
According to Croft, the timing of this change isn't optimal, especially with the possibility of Las Vegas being a challenging weekend to handle.
The first event faced issues with unsecured manhole covers and session delays, and races held on street circuits typically experience a higher number of collisions and incidents, requiring the race director to swiftly decide on issuing red flags.
"I’m uncertain about the issues that have arisen between the FIA and Niels Wittich," Croft mentioned. "I am not aware of the reasons behind the FIA's decision to immediately dismiss their race director."
"Completing it before Las Vegas is certainly quite unusual. I'm not expressing concern, as I don't want to suggest that Rui Marques will perform poorly—I genuinely don't know what to expect. I trust that the FIA believes he is capable. I am confident he will put in his best effort, but having experience in these situations is crucial. This is a weekend filled with intense pressure."
"I wish for everything to proceed without issues. Ideally, we will experience a relatively uneventful weekend without incidents like loose drain covers, crumbling tarmac, or numerous accidents. This event might prove to be quite challenging for the new race director. The FIA has parted ways with their previous race director, and their compliance officer is no longer with them either."
