Joan Mir has expressed his frustration towards Alex Marquez, referring to him as a "missile," following an incident during the MotoGP Japanese Grand Prix. Mir emphasized the importance of being more thoughtful while riding.
The Honda racer was attempting to make a comeback from a 17th place start when Alex Marquez, who began the race in 10th position, hit the back of Mir's motorcycle at Turn 12 during the first lap. This occurred after Marquez went off course at Turn 11 just moments earlier.
The crash resulted in both racers being removed from the competition and prompted an investigation by the FIM officials. They determined that Marquez was responsible for the incident and issued him a long lap penalty, which he must complete at the next grand prix he participates in.
The event planned at the moment is the Australian Grand Prix.
During a debrief in Spanish on Sunday, Mir was quoted by es.motorsport.com saying: "Alex overshot Turn 11, and as we approached Turn 12, he struck me from behind with little consideration, almost like a missile."
"When you're cycling, you need to be more mindful. It's easy to disrupt the races of others without any cost."
"I'm more upset about losing the game than about my injury."
Before the officials announced their decision, Mir expressed his frustration to the press about the delay. He was upset because he believed the Honda rider's actions clearly violated the regulations.
He sarcastically remarked that he was waiting for the stewards, who might be taking a nap or having a meal, to issue a decision before Marquez received the penalty.
During that period, Mir was also displeased because Marquez had not offered an apology, remarking, "This isn't the first instance where something like this has occurred between us."
"I was on track for a strong return, but Alex put an end to my progress."
"This situation cannot be classified as a mere racing incident. If a driver is ahead of you and you collide with them without considering your actions, it goes beyond being just a normal racing event."
Alex Marquez mentioned that he has apologized to Mir, but he also expressed his displeasure with the penalty imposed on him.
The Gresini team racer believes that the officials have lacked consistency, highlighting that Jack Miller did not receive the same penalty despite causing the multi-rider crash at Turn 3 during last week's Indonesian Grand Prix.
Miller took responsibility for the incident, although he didn't directly hit anyone. He lost control of his bike while riding in the group, which then caused other riders, such as Marquez, to be caught up in the crash.
The officials concluded that the event was simply a typical occurrence in racing.
