Helmut Marko Hints at Future Red Bull F1 Line-Up: A Junior Partner for Verstappen in 2025?
Helmut Marko gives a clue about Red Bull's strategy for their 2025 Formula 1 driver roster.
Helmut Marko has expressed his preference for a Red Bull junior to partner with Max Verstappen as his teammate in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Speculation surrounding who will team up with Verstappen in 2025 remains a subject of keen interest.
Sergio Perez's performance throughout 2024 has been lackluster, yet he has managed to avoid being cut from the team.
Liam Lawson was chosen over Daniel Ricciardo, who was initially considered the perfect replacement for the Mexican racer.
Red Bull is expected to scrutinize Lawson's performance in the upcoming six races to determine his potential to partner with Verstappen in the next season's races.
In an interview with Austrian broadcaster ORF, Marko mentioned, "I'm not certain about the number of races where [Lawson] outpaced Yuki, but that prompted us to evaluate who between the two is quicker at this moment."
Certainly, Yuki has shown significant progress. He's managing his emotions more effectively now. Previously, his outbursts over the radio were quite severe. Such outbursts also had a negative impact on his performance.
"To put it differently, he no longer had his quickness, which was my biggest concern. However, that issue has been resolved. He's now quick and reliable across all tracks."
Marko observed that competing Formula 1 teams are choosing younger drivers.
Haas has brought in Oliver Bearman to take over from Kevin Magnussen, and Mercedes has introduced 18-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli as the new replacement for Lewis Hamilton.
Franco Colapinto has made a notable impact in his brief time with Williams, possibly placing him in consideration for a driving position next year at Sauber.
"He emphasized that young talent is back in vogue," he mentioned. "The approach we once took is now being adopted by Mercedes through Antonelli, Haas via Bearman, and I'm also optimistic that Colapinto will find his place."
"He was plunged into challenging conditions and has successfully completed three impressive races."
When questioned about his aspirations for Verstappen’s partner in 2025, he stated his preference: “Ideally, someone from our own junior program.”
