Guenther Steiner Calls for F1 Rule Change: Ban on Dual Team Ownership to Prevent Alleged Team Orders

Guenther Steiner calls for a new regulation in Formula 1: "A single owner should not control more than one team." He expressed concerns, stating, "There is always a lingering doubt about possible collusion or orders being exchanged between teams."

Guenther Steiner believes that Formula 1 should establish a regulation to stop two teams from having the same owner.

Nonetheless, he agrees that the implementation of a regulation should be gradual.

Red Bull, the team that Steiner was associated with prior to his role as Haas team principal, would be the most impacted by the new rule he suggested.

Red Bull has a secondary team, RB, competing in Formula 1 as well, a scenario that has stirred up discontent among some of their competitors.

During an interview on the Red Flags podcast, Steiner expressed that in Formula 1, it is inappropriate for any owner to possess more than one team.

"You can't shake the feeling that there might be coordinated strategies or directives between different teams."

"We should acknowledge the achievements of Red Bull during that period. I was part of the process when they acquired Minardi."

"Formula 1 was facing difficulties. Minardi, in particular, was facing tough times and would have disappeared without someone stepping in to help."

"Formula 1 has seen significant advancements since that time."

"Looking ahead, perhaps a rule could be established to prevent individuals from owning multiple teams."

"In football, and in any other context, this action is prohibited."

However, Steiner cautions that the circumstances cannot be transformed immediately.

He stated, "It shouldn't be as extreme as what was outlined in the Concorde Agreement."

"The contributions Red Bull has made to the evolution of Formula 1 are truly remarkable."

"In the final analysis, you can't dictate how they should manage their teams."

"In the future, it will be necessary to consider how to prevent this from happening."

A stir was caused in Singapore when Daniel Ricciardo of RB secured the bonus point for the fastest lap towards the end of the race.

He deprived McLaren's Lando Norris of the extra point that could prove vital in the fight for the drivers' championship.

Red Bull's sister team, RB, played a crucial role in supporting Max Verstappen's pursuit of the F1 championship by hindering Norris's ability to score points.

"If Visa Cash App didn't share the same ownership, no one would have been suspicious," Steiner stated.

Many believed that Daniel Ricciardo was making his final appearance.

"If, hypothetically, Sauber had completed the final lap, would anyone have been concerned? Not at all."

"The issue arises from the fact that they have the same ownership."

Under the guidance of Steiner, Haas operated as a team that received support from Ferrari.

However, Steiner emphasizes that it is important to note that they were owned by different people.

"Things are different now. Previously, as a customer team, you were obligated to follow the supplier's demands," he commented.

"No one could determine it based on the contracts, as all agreements are with the FIA. No one could instruct a driver to slow down another car."

"However, when both parties are under the same corporate umbrella, the situation changes. The cooperation becomes more integrated."
