Golden Week Boost: Chinese Tech Giants from ByteDance to Meituan Witness Surge in Consumer Spending on Online Dining and Travel Booking Services
Chinese technology powerhouses ranging from ByteDance to Meituan have experienced a boost in consumer spending during the 'golden week'. Mainland customers increased their spending on major digital platforms for food and travel reservations during the yearly vacation.
Bookings for outbound trips and vacation bundles – that include plane tickets, accommodations, and meals – increased by over 50% and 40% respectively, during the "golden week" on Fliggy, as per the platform's announcement.
According to a post on WeChat by the well-known Online Travel Agency, Trip.com, the average daily bookings for international travel peaked to an unprecedented level during the same timeframe, details of which were not provided.
In the meantime, total hotel bookings through Douyin saw an increase of more than threefold, and the number of short-range cruise journeys planned through the platform rose by 123 percent, as per an announcement from the subsidiary of ByteDance.
