Rui Chenggang, ex-CCTV presenter, reappears on YouTube, downplays 'numerous controversies'
The once-disputed former presenter, notable for his interviews with global leaders, disappeared a decade ago during a corruption investigation at the national broadcaster.
A once-prominent presenter for Chinese state TV, who vanished mysteriously ten years ago, has reappeared, putting to rest rumors of espionage and scandalous affairs.
Rui Chenggang, previously a prominent presenter for China's state-run broadcaster CCTV, and recognized for his interactions with notable leaders like former US President Barack Obama and ex-Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, made a comeback by launching a video on a newly established YouTube channel this Monday. This marks his first public appearance since his arrest on allegations of corruption a decade ago.
In the 17-minute video, 47-year-old Rui made no mention of the specifics surrounding his arrest or his current location. However, he dismissed rumors that he had been involved in espionage and his purported connection to multiple scandals.
There have been numerous speculations regarding Rui, such as allegations of his involvement with the spouses of high-ranking officials and claims that he passed away during his incarceration.
"Rui dismissed the allegations as baseless, claiming they were concocted by someone else. He mentioned that he is currently engaged in investing."
He didn't explain why he decided to start the video channel, merely stating, "I just miss everyone."
