Financial Hurdles Threaten 2025 Indian MotoGP: Event Faces Potential Cancellation
The 2025 Indian MotoGP event might be called off, according to reports.
According to reports, the Indian MotoGP will not be included in the Grand Prix schedule for the 2025 season.
Autosport reports that the race is likely to be called off because Invest UP, a government investment agency in Uttar Pradesh, isn't providing the necessary financial backing. The race takes place at the Buddh International Circuit in this region.
The Indian Grand Prix was introduced to the MotoGP schedule in 2023, with Marco Bezzecchi securing the victory and Fairstreet Sports serving as the event's promoter.
Invest UP assumed responsibility for promoting the 2025 event following an agreement with Dorna Sports, the organization that holds the MotoGP rights, which is set to end in 2029.
Due to financial issues, the 2024 race was called off earlier this year and was subsequently substituted by the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, which was held last weekend.
The Indian Grand Prix for 2025 has been moved from its September spot, which it had in 2023 and was planned for in 2024 before being canceled. The race is now set for March to take advantage of more favorable, cooler weather conditions.
India's new March schedule would place it within a series of initial races for the season in Asia, starting with the Thai Grand Prix on the first weekend of March.
The complete schedule for the 2025 season hasn't been announced yet, but it's confirmed that races will take place in Thailand, Germany, Czechia, and a new location in Hungary.
According to Autosport, the Argentinian Grand Prix is set to make a comeback next season after being absent in 2024. This hiatus was due to significant changes in economic policy introduced by Javier Milei, who assumed the presidency of Argentina in December 2023.
