From the Grande Panda Hybrid to the Giga Panda and the 500 Mild Hybrid

With the anticipated launch of the Fiat Grande Panda, the year 2024 essentially wraps up in terms of new developments for the company, shifting the focus to 2025 and its forthcoming vehicles. The year promises to be defined by the release of the Grande Panda, along with the debut of additional new models.

Lining up on the launch pad are the production model of the Fiat Giga Panda and the fresh Fiat 500 Hybrid, which takes after the electric variant. Let's now turn our attention to all the upcoming Fiat models anticipated for the year 2025.

The electric vehicle took center stage at its global unveiling on July 11, 2024, with plans to start sales by the end of the year. This completely fresh model is built on the intelligent vehicle architecture shared with the Citroën C3, C3 Aircross, and Opel Frontera, and will also be available with traditional combustion engines.

The Large Fiat Panda

The gasoline-powered Fiat Grande Panda, equipped with a mild hybrid system, is set to share the same powertrain as its "cousins." This will be the 1.2-liter engine capable of delivering 100 horsepower, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. Changes to the vehicle's exterior and interior design are expected to be minimal, if any. The cost of this model will undoubtedly be lower than the electric version of the Fiat Grande Panda, which, according to Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, will start at around 25,000 euros.

The Fiat Giga Panda

This vehicle represents the second installment in the emerging Panda series, aiming to connect with the legacy of the 500 series from the 2010s. Initially referred to as the Fiat Giga Panda, there's speculation that it may be rebranded as the Multipla, echoing the model produced from 1998 to 2010. Beyond its name, it's anticipated to be more spacious than its predecessor, the Grande Panda, potentially reaching a length of around 4.4 meters, comparable to the new Citroen C3 Aircross.

The configuration with seating for seven might be a feature borrowed from its relative, a rare find in a vehicle of this dimension. Both cars also share similarities under the hood: similar to the Grande Panda (and every model built on the Smart Car platform), the Fiat Giga Panda will be available with an electric engine delivering 113 horsepower, as well as with mild-hybrid options producing 100 and 136 horsepower.

The Fiat 500 is making a transition from its electric version due to declining sales and a production halt set until November 2023. Unlike the common shift from traditional combustion engines to electric, the Fiat 500 is slated to transform into a mild hybrid between late 2025 and early 2026. This move is also aimed at counterbalancing the discontinuation of its combustion engine counterpart.

Fiat 500 Hybrid, our interpretation

It's been revealed that the name Fiat 500 Torino will be used to pay tribute to the city that hosts the Mirafiori manufacturing lines, although specifics regarding the powertrain remain undisclosed.

It is highly likely that the 1.2 Mild-Hybrid, which boasts 100 horsepower and is already in use across various Stellantis models, will be included, although company executives have yet to disclose any details. In terms of cost, it is expected to be priced below the €29,490 of the 500 Electric, with starting prices potentially around the €18,000 mark.
