Fabio di Giannantonio to Power Through Injury for Final MotoGP Races of 2024 Season
Fabio di Giannantonio confirms continuation in racing: “Underwent additional health evaluations”
“After undergoing further health evaluations, I acknowledge I’m not fully fit, making it challenging to cope.”
Fabio di Giannantonio is on his way to Australia and appears poised to finish the 2024 MotoGP season.
Following the Motegi race, the VR46 Ducati competitor had a significant medical consultation to assess the status of his earlier dislocated left shoulder.
Opting out of the concluding races to have surgery and ensure complete fitness for the 2025 pre-season trials was considered.
Despite not being fully fit, di Giannantonio is set to return to action for the beginning of the last overseas triple event at Phillip Island this coming weekend.
"In Motegi, my condition improved, both in terms of my performance on the motorcycle and my physical health. I returned home and spent the week resting and recuperating," shared di Giannantonio, who secured an eighth-place finish at the Japanese MotoGP.
"I underwent additional health assessments and, admittedly, I'm not fully fit. Navigating the end of this season will be challenging, yet I'm committed to competing and striving to match the pace of the leading competitors."
A year ago, Phillip Island marked the location where Diggia achieved his first-ever MotoGP podium, a milestone that, alongside a subsequent win in Qatar, ensured his continuation in MotoGP by landing him a spot at VR46.
"The Phillip Island track stands out as truly one-of-a-kind in every aspect. It's one of my favorites, incredibly fast, and filled with fond memories," he expressed.
"In 2023, I achieved my initial top-three finish in MotoGP, an unforgettable milestone especially since it occurred during a crucial phase of my career."
Heading into the final four races, di Giannantonio is tied in points with his team-mate Marco Bezzecchi, both vying for ninth place in the world championship standings.
Bezzecchi edged out di Giannantonio by a narrow margin of less than a second in Motegi, finishing sixth in the previous year's Saturday grand prix at Phillip Island.
"Phillip Island offers a thrilling experience with its high-speed stretches, particularly in the last section, and stunning scenery," Bezzecchi remarked. "As usual, the climate presents challenges, including wind, cold, and rain. It won't be simple, but it's a factor we understand needs to be accounted for.
"In Japan, our performance was commendable. Although we didn't match our competitiveness from Mandalika, we secured strong positions. Despite varying grip levels, we succeeded in narrowing the gap with the leading pack."
"Let's keep going in this manner; three challenging weeks lie ahead, but we have the opportunity to progress further."
