EXCLUSIVE: Gene Haas Commits to Major Investment Boost for F1 Team After Stellar 2024 Performance
EXCLUSIVE: Gene Haas ready to boost investment in F1 team to "raise the bar"
Ayao Komatsu gives an exclusive interview to Crash.net about Gene Haas's new strategy for funding the F1 team.
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu has disclosed that Gene Haas, the team’s owner, has been persuaded to put more money into the F1 team after a strong performance in the 2024 season.
In 2024, Haas has emerged as one of the top-performing teams in Formula 1, especially considering the team's relatively small size.
The U.S. team is currently in seventh place in the F1 constructors' championship with six races left.
They trail VCARB by only three points, a team that has failed to earn any points since the season restarted in August.
Despite being the team with the fewest staff and resources, Haas has outperformed expectations this year.
Given the existing framework, this is probably the highest level of success that Haas can attain.
As Haas' competitors in the midfield are making significant investments—Williams is improving under the leadership of James Vowles, Sauber will receive support from major car manufacturer Audi in 2026, and VCARB is strengthening its relationship with Red Bull—Haas needs to take action to avoid falling behind.
In an exclusive interview with Crash.net during last month's Dutch Grand Prix, Komatsu disclosed that team owner Gene Haas has committed to providing additional funding to help the team "raise their potential".
Komatsu stated that the F1 team must demonstrate to Gene Haas their ability to fully utilize their resources before securing complete backing from their owner.
Komatsu stated that given our present setup, he doesn't believe we can achieve significantly better results.
"The positive aspect is that Gene consistently promised to invest, provided we demonstrated our ability to fully utilize our resources as a team. That's precisely what we have accomplished."
Gene began increasing his investment following three races. He came to an agreement after the trio of races in Melbourne, recognizing the necessity to invest more and enhance the team.
"We must significantly enhance the team's potential to improve our performance. This needs to be done simultaneously."
"By making the most of our current resources, we can persuade Gene to provide additional funding, which has already occurred. With this investment, our capabilities will progressively improve. Without this, competing for P7 in the future would be impossible."
