Bagnaia and Martin: Equal Opportunity in 2024 MotoGP Championship Chase

Ducati Commits to Fair Equipment Distribution Among Its Championship Contenders

The championship fight in MotoGP between Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin is approaching its climax, as the last four races promise an equal opportunity for the Ducati contenders.

In a repeat of their 2023 showdown, current two-time world champion Bagnaia and Pramac's Martin are locked in a battle for the title as they head into the last four races of the season.

Following the recent Japanese Grand Prix, where Bagnaia clinched his fourth pair of wins for the season, the difference in points between the two racers has narrowed to just 10, with Martin continuing to lead.

Martin is set to leave Ducati after the 2024 season to become a part of Aprilia's official team. His decision comes after deciding to part ways with his current team, which reversed its original plan to elevate him to the main team with Bagnaia for the 2025 season.

Since that time, the idea of Ducati allowing the premier title to possibly follow Martin to Aprilia has been viewed as unthinkable, prompting inquiries regarding how much backing the Spanish rider would get in the latter part of the season.

Ducati has consistently asserted that Martin and Bagnaia will receive equal support, and recent updates have reinforced this stance.

Per es.motorsport.com, Ducati has halted any further development on the GP24 for the rest of the season, with its final modification being aerodynamic adjustments introduced at the Silverstone circuit in August.

Heading into the last four races, four competitors still have a chance to clinch the championship, and regardless of the outcomes, Ducati is assured of securing the title.

Claims have emerged that Ducati is guaranteeing equal machinery for Martin and Bagnaia, following Bagnaia's comments a few weeks prior about testing a new chassis at Misano, which he was eager to use in a race at the earliest opportunity.

In Indonesia, Bagnaia referred to 2024 as a "season filled with errors" after crashing while leading the sprint ahead of Martin.

Bagnaia believes that the 2024 Michelin rear tire, known for its superior traction, exerts more pressure on the front tire during braking compared to last year's model. This, he suggests, is leading to the frequent errors observed among the frontrunners in the standings.

In response to inquiries about solutions for 2025, Bagnaia mentioned, “I plan to request what I experimented with during the [Misano] test.

"It was incredibly effective. The experiment we conducted proved to be very beneficial. Unfortunately, I'm unable to utilize it at the moment, as it would be greatly advantageous, but they haven't made it available to all GP24s yet."

"Therefore, it's not an option for me. It's a fresh framework that I believe will benefit everyone involved."

Looking back, this remark was the initial indication that Ducati had indeed concluded its GP24 development.

According to the terms of their agreement, Ducati is obligated to supply improvements to each of its motorcycles. However, with Martin and the entire Pramac team set to leave the Italian manufacturer after this season, it's understandable why they wouldn't want to share advancements with what will soon become their competition, especially when these updates are expected to enhance the performance of the Desmosedici.
