Ducati Commits to Fair Play: Bagnaia and Martin to Battle on Equal Ground in Final MotoGP Showdown
Bagnaia and Martin: Equal Ground in the 2024 MotoGP Championship Battle
Ducati commits to providing equal machinery for its championship contenders
The championship fight in MotoGP between Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin is approaching its end, with the last four races promising an equal opportunity for the Ducati contenders.
In a repeat of 2023's competition, the current two-time world titleholder Bagnaia and Pramac team's Martin are entering the last four races of this season, competing fiercely for the championship.
Following the recent Japanese Grand Prix, where Bagnaia achieved his fourth double win of the year, the difference in points between the two racers has decreased to just 10, with Martin continuing to lead.
Martin is set to leave Ducati after the 2024 season to become part of the official Aprilia team, making the switch after Ducati reversed its initial decision to elevate him to the main team with Bagnaia for the 2025 season.
Ever since, the idea of Ducati allowing the top spot to possibly follow Martin to Aprilia has been deemed unimaginable, prompting inquiries regarding the extent of assistance the Spanish rider would get during the latter half of the season.
Ducati has consistently asserted its commitment to offering equal support to both Martin and Bagnaia, and recent reports have reaffirmed this stance.
As reported by es.motorsport.com, Ducati will halt any further development on the GP24 for the rest of the season, with its final upgrade, focusing on aerodynamic adjustments, having been introduced at Silverstone in August.
Heading into the last four races, four competitors have a mathematical chance at securing the championship, ensuring Ducati's victory in the title regardless of the outcomes.
News has emerged that Ducati is committed to maintaining equal equipment for Martin and Bagnaia, following Bagnaia's recent comments about testing a new chassis at Misano, which he was eager to use in a race at the earliest opportunity.
In Indonesia, Bagnaia referred to 2024 as a "season filled with errors," after crashing while in the lead during the sprint against Martin.
Bagnaia's hypothesis suggests that the 2024 Michelin rear tire, due to its superior grip, is exerting more pressure on the front during braking compared to the previous year. This, he believes, is leading to the frequent errors observed among the top two riders in the rankings.
In response to a question about resolving this issue by 2025, Bagnaia mentioned, "I will request what I experimented with during the [Misano] test."
"The experience was excellent. The solutions we explored during the trial showed significant promise. Unfortunately, I'm unable to utilize it at the moment, which is a shame because it would be highly beneficial, but it hasn't been made available to all GP24s yet."
"Therefore, it's unusable for me. It's an innovative frame design, and I believe it will benefit everyone involved."
Looking back, this remark was the initial indication that Ducati had indeed concluded its GP24 development.
According to the agreement, Ducati is obligated to offer improvements for all its motorcycles. However, with Martin and the entire Pramac team separating from the Italian company after this season, it wouldn't be prudent to grant potential competitors insight into the advancements planned for the Desmosedici.
