Cracking the Code: Dani Pedrosa on How to Outrace Francesco Bagnaia in MotoGP
How can one outpace Francesco Bagnaia in a MotoGP competition?
Dani Pedrosa, who has claimed victory in MotoGP 31 times, examines the main strengths of Bagnaia.
Dani Pedrosa believes that it's crucial not to let Francesco Bagnaia dominate a race at a grand prix, as his main strength in MotoGP lies in his ability to lead and manage the race from the front.
As the MotoGP season approaches its last four races, the competition for the championship is incredibly close. Jorge Martin currently holds a 10-point advantage over Bagnaia in what is shaping up to be yet another Ducati-dominated race for the title.
In the most recent event in Japan, the current double world champion reduced the gap to Martin by securing victories in both the sprint race and the main grand prix, where Bagnaia maintained the lead throughout every lap.
According to Pedrosa, a 31-time grand prix victor, Bagnaia's main strength lies in his skill to dictate the race tempo when leading. During the Japanese GP coverage on DAZN, Pedrosa discussed what improvements Bagnaia's competitors must make.
The KTM test rider and television analyst mentioned that observing these races over the course of the year makes it quite simple to comment from his perspective as a rider.
"It's evident that you can't allow Pecco to race without interference. In the situation in Japan, Martin couldn't have achieved anything beyond second place, as beginning in 11th position limited his potential."
"Over the course of the season, we've observed Bagnaia consistently executing races where he secures a one-second lead and feels at ease with that performance."
"He maintains a steady speed, and his bike is excellently set up to handle the tires effectively."
"At that point, the race tends to stabilize, with initial gaps having been established, making it challenging for competitors to close the distance with the leader."
"As observed, all participants are riding at a similar pace. During certain laps, a racer might gain a tenth of a second, while in others, they lose it. However, the outcome of the race is largely predetermined."
Pedrosa mentioned that it's necessary to figure out a method to disrupt his concentration and introduce some challenges for him.
"Marc Marquez excels in situations like these. When he's right behind you, he knows how to disrupt your rhythm and prevent you from focusing on your race."
In this situation, Pecco has the ability to run his race effectively, making it quite challenging for others to defeat him.
