China’s MSS Issues Cybersecurity Warning, Urges Review of Intel Chips Citing Security Failures
China's intelligence service has issued a warning about increasing cyber threats, coinciding with demands for a thorough examination of Intel's technology. This advisory follows concerns raised about Intel processors, specifically citing 'repeated vulnerabilities and significant failure rates'.
China's leading intelligence organization has issued alerts about threats to national security after a Chinese cybersecurity collective urged an evaluation of Intel products available in the country.
"The Ministry of State Security (MSS) highlighted the escalating concerns surrounding cybersecurity, noting its impact across multiple sectors including politics, economics, culture, society, ecology, and national defense," according to a statement released on its official WeChat account last Thursday. The MSS warned of the growing fierce battles for supremacy and influence in the realm of cyberspace.
The organization highlighted a number of security flaws in Intel processors within games including GhostRace, NativeBHI, and Downfall, noting that these vulnerabilities enable attackers to exploit speculative execution errors to gain access to confidential data.
The CSAC has also faulted Intel for sluggish reactions to previous security breach grievances and for potentially facilitating a covert entry point that could be used to initiate cyberattacks or access data without the permission of users.
