Francesco Bagnaia, who won the sprint race in Motegi, narrowly edged out his championship competitor Jorge Martin by a mere 0.005 seconds in the morning warm-up session for the 2024 Japanese MotoGP.
Following some rainfall on Saturday, weather conditions are expected to improve on Sunday. The ten-minute warm-up is anticipated to take place under clear, sunny skies.
Enea Bastianini, who finished second in the Sprint, Pedro Acosta, who crashed while leading, and Marc Marquez, who advanced from ninth to third, rounded out the top five in the warm-up session. Riders focused on using the medium rear tire to gear up for the 24-lap grand prix later today.
On Saturday, Bagnaia secured a victory that narrowed the gap in the world championship standings, leaving Martin with a 15-point lead. Martin, riding for Pramac, managed to finish fourth in the Sprint race. However, he faces the challenge of starting from eleventh place on the grid due to a crash during the qualifying round.
After breaking his right wrist in Mandalika, Miguel Oliveira is unable to participate and is being substituted at Trackhouse by Aprilia's test rider, Lorenzo Savadori.
Remy Gardner, a consistent competitor in the World Superbike series, is set to make his third outing of the season with Yamaha, participating as a wild-card entrant in the manufacturer's home event.
