Audi Steadfast in F1 Commitment Amid Renault’s Exit and Engine Development Race
Audi reiterates its "prolonged dedication" to Formula 1 following Renault's decision to drop its engine program.
Audi has reiterated their enduring dedication to Formula 1, following Renault's decision to discontinue their engine program.
Renault has discontinued its engine development plan for 2026, opting instead to become a client team with the rollout of the upcoming engine regulations.
Despite F1 parting ways with Renault, they are greeting the arrival of Red Bull-Ford, Audi, and Honda's comeback.
There's widespread speculation suggesting that Audi is trailing behind Mercedes and Ferrari in the development of their 2026 F1 engine.
Nonetheless, Audi's chief executive, Gernot Dollner, has maintained that Renault's move to drop their engine initiative will not affect the plans of the German powerhouse.
When questioned about Renault, he mentioned, "No, that subject wasn't brought up in our conversation."
"Dollner emphasized Audi's enduring dedication to Formula 1, mentioning that earlier in the year, the supervisory boards of AG and Audi resolved to fully acquire the shares of Sauber.
"Starting from January 1, 2025, we will have full control over Sauber."
"By the year 2025, as the current chairman of the board of directors at Sauber Motorsport, I will be taking a more active and personal role in our Formula 1 endeavors."
Sauber has faced a challenging season in 2024, unable to secure any points in the first 18 races.
Dollner is optimistic that with Mattia Binotto and Jonathan Wheatley on board, the initiative is in capable hands and poised for success.
"I'm truly delighted that we've secured a solid leadership team for our Formula 1 initiative, featuring Mattia Binotto and Jonathan Wheatley.
"A robust pair of leaders helm the initiative, one overseeing corporate operations related to an automobile project."
"Regarding the individual overseeing our racetrack activities and acting as our representative, we are confident that we have identified an ideal approach for our upcoming endeavors."
