Aprilia’s Blueprint for Success: Preparing for Jorge Martin’s Arrival and Overcoming Technical Challenges in MotoGP 2025
The measures Aprilia must take to prepare for Jorge Martin's entry into MotoGP 2025
Present racers specify the areas the RS-GP must enhance
Aprilia is preparing for a significant transformation in its MotoGP efforts in 2025, embracing a new lineup of riders while parting ways with its existing technical director.
In 2025, the Noale brand is set to welcome three fresh faces to its team: Jorge Martin, who currently leads the championship, Marco Bezzecchi, a winner of three grand prix, and newcomer Ai Ogura, all of whom will be joining the Trackhouse lineup.
Aprilia is set to bid farewell to their long-serving technical director Romano Albesiano, as they welcome ex-Ducati and KTM engineer Fabiano Sterlacchini to fill the role.
This downturn in performance for Aprilia during the 2024 season follows an initially strong start, highlighted by Maverick Vinales' win in America.
Aleix Espargaro thinks that Aprilia's competitors have advanced more than they have since last year, pointing out several aspects where the RS-GP requires enhancements.
"He mentioned that he sensed a significant enhancement in our competitors' performance from 2023 to 2024."
To understand the performance, simply look at the lap records. Upon reviewing our lap times, you'll notice they are virtually identical, fluctuating by perhaps a tenth of a second higher or lower than 23.
"This implies that the bicycle remains essentially unchanged and is inadequate for competing for wins."
"Without a doubt, Aprilia must focus on enhancing the engine in the coming year, along with boosting the bike's stability and agility."
"The moment you exert effort and aim to match the lap times of the leading racers, it becomes notably easy to lose rear traction."
"In my opinion, it seems we've reached the maximum potential of this motorcycle. It appears we're struggling to get the tyres to perform as desired."
Vinales disagrees with Espargaro's opinion that Michelin's 2024 rear tire has been a setback for Aprilia, focusing instead on the bike's aerodynamics as the issue.
"He also mentioned that a particularly strong point of last year’s bike was its speed around corners."
"This year, I don't perceive any particularly strong point, yet I acknowledge that your perspective could be valid across all points.
"Similar to the previous year, for instance, our speed in corners was high, yet we found maneuvering challenging."
"On stretches that didn't require turning, our speed was significantly high."
"This season, we're missing something. In my opinion, it's the bicycle. Its aerodynamics have significantly changed, altering both how the bike handles and its equilibrium."
