Acosta’s Provocative Query: Can Ducati Sway the MotoGP Title Race Between Martin and Bagnaia?
Pedro Acosta inquires whether Martin and Bagnaia think Ducati will play a role in the MotoGP championship competition. During the press conference before the event at Phillip Island, Acosta aims to add some excitement…
Pedro Acosta, who previously hinted at wanting more excitement between MotoGP title contenders Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin during the official press conferences, was granted an opportunity to pose a question on Thursday at Phillip Island.
Following a period of "careful consideration," the KTM newcomer presented a pre-recorded statement aimed at the TV audience. This message, subsequently shown to Martin and Bagnaia, posed the question: "Will Ducati play a role in affecting the championship race?"
The context for Acosta's inquiry involves the situation where Martin is part of the satellite team, Pramac, while the reigning champion, Bagnaia, is with the official factory team.
The text indicates that Martin, associated with Aprilia, and Pramac, linked with Yamaha, will part ways with Ducati when this season concludes.
Martin responded by saying, "I get why people ask this; it's on their minds! However, since I can't influence it, I choose not to concentrate on that. My attention will be on riding."
"I certainly hope not. My main focus will be on what I can control: riding at full capacity and aiming to maintain speed."
Bagnaia mentioned that if Ducati intended to sway the outcome of the championship, he would have been permitted to compete using the new chassis he favored during the Misano test.
Rather than allowing additional technical enhancements this season, Ducati has decided to halt them to prevent affecting performance.
Bagnaia expressed that if assistance was intended, he could have received improvements to his setup as early as the Misano event.
"We experimented with a new chassis, but it's not fully prepared for widespread use, so we're not implementing it at the moment. This approach seems more appropriate."
"Gigi Dall’Igna has consistently communicated this. From the moment I began competing with Ducati, and especially during the past two seasons."
The factory teams, Lenovo and Pramac, have identical setups. There is no difference in what they have. If there's anything new that I receive, it's provided to everyone else too.
In my opinion, Ducati's approach differs from that of other manufacturers. It is precisely this unique strategy that makes Ducati so competitive.
"I doubt they will make any changes to the bike before the Valencia event."
Martin is aiming to become the first satellite team rider to clinch a championship in the ‘MotoGP’ era and currently has a ten-point advantage over Bagnaia with four races left in the season.
