McLaren's chief, Zak Brown, has praised the FIA officials for imposing dual 10-second penalties on Max Verstappen during the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix.

Verstappen received a pair of penalties for pushing Lando Norris off the circuit twice.

The initial incident occurred at Turn 4 when Norris tried to pass Verstappen on the corner's outer edge.

In Turn 7, Verstappen made an audacious move on his Formula 1 championship competitor.

Verstappen received a pair of 10-second penalties, significantly lowering his position and resulting in a sixth-place finish.

In response to inquiries regarding Verstappen's penalties, Brown expressed to Sky Sports his belief that they were likely insufficient, commenting on the situation as somewhat absurd.

"I commend the FIA officials. It's time to draw the line. Moving forward, let's focus on fair and pure racing."

"Lando executed an outstanding performance. Kudos to Carlos [Sainz] – his driving was impressive. The race was thrilling."

Brown ruled out the possibility of lodging more complaints to the FIA regarding Verstappen's driving, expressing that "they performed well this weekend".

"He believes the officials have it under control, as evidenced by the penalties they've imposed. He mentioned that there's no further action required on their part."

"Allow the stewards to handle their responsibilities. They performed well this weekend."

Ferrari's top-three placement in Mexico has narrowed their gap with McLaren to merely 29 points in the constructors' standings, with four races remaining.

Evaluating the competition among the teams, Brown commented, "It's closer than my preference. However, it's fantastic for Formula 1. Watching Ferrari and McLaren vie for the championship is thrilling. We definitely shouldn't discount Red Bull. The season's finale is shaping up to be quite exhilarating."

George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz, and Oscar Piastri each have claimed victory twice.

Johann Zarco from LCR mentioned that he tested a new motorcycle from Honda but found it to be "not beneficial." However, he emphasized that there is no reason to worry at this point.

In contrast, Marini mentioned that he had more to evaluate than he initially anticipated, noting that the 2025 prototype will definitely serve as the foundation for the Sepang test.

The Italian rider observed that the updated chassis enhanced the bike's front-end performance, yet it did not address the rear traction problems that have plagued the Honda throughout the year.

"I honestly had a lot of options to explore on my end."

Marini pointed out that the examination of the chassis wasn't conducted flawlessly, suggesting that any drawbacks might not be linked to the frame itself but could instead be connected to the general configuration of the bike.

Honda is set to conduct their final test of 2024 at Jerez this week, and Marini has noted that "there are also new elements, which I would describe as quite intriguing."

When questioned about whether it was feasible for Honda, who ended up at the bottom of the constructors’ standings in 2024, to make a major improvement by the initial test of 2025, he responded: “I’m not sure. It might be a bit premature before Sepang. We’ll probably have to wait until around mid-season to achieve a substantial advancement.”

Las Vegas was adorned with stars and stripes as over 70 celebrities attended the Grand Prix on Saturday. However, it was the Mercedes team, symbolized by their iconic three-pointed star, that stole the spotlight on the racetrack. George Russell took the lead, followed by Lewis Hamilton, securing Mercedes' 60th one-two finish. This marked the team's first such achievement since the São Paulo race in 2022.

The factory team dominated each session, making the weekend's events incredibly seamless, which was a stark difference from 2023. That year marked F1's return to Las Vegas after 40 years, but the event was marred by damaged water valve covers on the track. This issue disrupted the first practice session and pushed back the second, following the destruction of Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari and damage to Esteban Ocon’s Alpine.

"Faced with a challenging initiation during the inaugural event, Las Vegas Grand Prix CEO Renee Wilm explained that the organizing team lacked the time and resources to perfect everything in the first year."

Wilm mentioned that they had a year and a half to organize the inaugural Grand Prix, which in hindsight seems quite absurd.

"Emily Prazer, the Chief Commercial Officer, and I initially didn't realize the extent of collaboration required and the significant resources needed for certain aspects that weren't directly related to Formula 1."

"We were skilled at organizing hospitality and had a clear vision for the Paddock Club. We understood the process of constructing a racetrack. However, we lacked the necessary resources in our first year to effectively handle certain aspects, such as communication, traffic management, and collaboration with officials and public works."

However, memories faded following an exhilarating inaugural race, which saw spectators and major brands come back in large numbers for an even more impressive 2024 event. This edition also featured a support category in the Ferrari Challenge.

"It's certainly a major occasion," commented Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing. "There are lots of sponsors present, which is thrilling."

Norris's aspirations dashed

Lando Norris, representing Brown's team, bid farewell to his dreams of clinching the 2024 drivers' championship on the iconic track. He came in sixth, finishing just behind Verstappen. The 63-point deficit as they head to Qatar effectively ended his title chances. However, the real setback occurred at the earlier race in Brazil, where the Dutch driver claimed victory in wet conditions, starting from 17th position.

The team reached Nevada with the expectation that Red Bull's standout driver was very likely to secure the championship title in the United States.

"I'm not worried that he might lose the championship this weekend," Brown stated in Las Vegas.

In truth, given his current standing in the points, it's probably because Max doesn't have to exert much effort to secure the championship. However, our plan remains unchanged: we will continue to focus intently on winning each race every weekend and then see how things turn out.

Las Vegas recently served as a filming location for Jerry Bruckheimer's upcoming Formula 1 movie, scheduled to be released in June 2025.

Actor Brad Pitt, portraying the character Sonny Hayes, was captured on camera collapsing at the track. However, this was a planned scene in the script. The live race filming will conclude at the final event of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

For the first time since it was introduced in 2002, Yamaha's M1 did not secure a spot on the grand prix podium. The factory team's top racer, Quartararo, finished the season in 13th place in the world championship standings.

"The main thing I need initially is power and grip," Quartararo remarked, as he tested a modified chassis, aerodynamics, swingarm, and engine.

Looking back on what he described as his most challenging season in the top tier, where he managed three podium finishes and secured tenth place in the championship standings last year, Quartararo remarked:

"Certainly, there's disappointment that we couldn't secure any podium finishes or exceptional races. However, it's crucial for us to leave with a sense of progress from our performance in the last four races."

During the wet Jerez Sprint, Quartararo nearly secured a spot on the podium, but a penalty related to his tires after the race cost him his third-place finish.

At the Sepang race, his top achievement was finishing in sixth position.

Although the outcomes are not meeting the expectations of Quartararo or Yamaha, the 2021 world champion firmly believes that progress is being made in the project.

Emphasizing the significant presence of engineers from both Japan and Italy in the pit area during the test, Quartararo stated:

This year, we've enhanced both the bicycle and the way we work on it.

Yamaha faced challenges in completely altering their mindset, which required a significant amount of time. There have been numerous updates, including new personnel and a fresh team. Additionally, many noticed that Augusto Fernandez was present with us in the garage.

"In my opinion, there are significant changes underway, including within the testing team. Gradually, we will regain our position. Naturally, I wish this could occur immediately, but it requires patience as the project is steadily improving."

"I sense an increase in speed and a feeling of being nearer, though I'm unsure exactly how. It's challenging to conduct a thorough analysis on a test day. However, regarding our positioning, we seem slightly improved, even if it is only a test."

"We'll find out our true standing after the final day in Thailand next year."

Quartararo emphasized that he is once more finding joy in riding the M1.

"It's not even like working for me," he stated. "I'm having fun with the bike. I've started to truly enjoy it because I can test its boundaries."

"We are determined to return to the top, and we will take every possible action to achieve this goal promptly."

Throughout the season, he accumulated only 66 points, with his top performance being a sixth-place finish at the Catalan Grand Prix, all while riding the 2023 model of the Aprilia.

In the last three rounds of the 2024 season, Fernandez didn't score any points, leaving him feeling "devastated" following the Solidarity Grand Prix.

Since there were no extra 2025-spec RS-GP bikes available for the post-race test, Fernandez concentrated on a significant issue with the electronics. He believes he has made significant progress for the upcoming year.

"In general, we didn't include the 2025 specifications in the package," he mentioned.

"We concentrated heavily on the bikes for 2023 and 2024 to gain a deeper understanding of various aspects. In my opinion, the 2024 model showed some improvements, but we began experimenting with different elements of the bike."

Throughout the day, we focused extensively on improving the electronics. This had been my weakest area over the past couple of years, but by the end, I noticed a change in how the bike felt.

"I realized that I could incorporate more of my personal style when working with electronics, which is one of the positive aspects of today."

"Certainly, we may face electronic issues again down the line, but at this point, we have established a foundational set-up that can be used as a starting point for nearly all the tracks."

"It was an extremely significant day, particularly to observe the dynamics since we had a couple of new individuals joining us. It was enjoyable to watch how they integrated into my team."

"I’m pleased with how things turned out. On the whole, it was a very encouraging day. After the race on Sunday, I was completely exhausted."

"I simply wanted to lie in my bed, feeling like a child who wants to cry every night."

"We've made significant progress with the electronics, and there's a noticeable difference now. Looking ahead, I believe we'll achieve even more advancements with Fabiano's help."

Fernandez stated that the advancements he achieved with the electronics on the Aprilia during the test enabled him to "adapt my technique" as he now has a better grasp of this aspect of the motorcycle.

When questioned about whether his problems stemmed from his own lack of understanding or that of his team, he responded: "It's about half and half. Honestly, I'm not sure."

"What I can share with you is that I'm able to adapt my approach to match the electronics since I have a good understanding of them."

"It's an even split, 50/50. Now that I've combined all the elements, I've found a single approach to proceed."

Charles Leclerc has criticized his Ferrari teammate, Carlos Sainz, after the F1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas.

The driver from Monaco unleashed an angry outburst filled with expletives directed at Ferrari after he ended up in fourth place, trailing Sainz and failing to secure a spot on the podium in Las Vegas.

Leclerc was furious because Sainz passed him soon after the second set of pit stops, even though Ferrari had assured him that Sainz was instructed to remain behind him.

Leclerc has issued a caution to Sainz, who is set to depart from Ferrari for a move to Williams next season, stating that his focus will solely be on himself during the last two races. His aim is to surpass Lando Norris and secure the second spot in the drivers’ championship.

Leclerc expressed his dissatisfaction with Carlos, opting not to elaborate further, as reported by Sky Italia through PlanetF1.

The reason is that we discuss these matters prior to the race, yet I'm consistently the sole person who adheres to those agreements. Moving forward, I will focus solely on my own interests.

"It's unfortunate that I wasn't able to earn more points compared to Norris."

During a media session in Las Vegas, Leclerc explained, "I thought I was managing the situation well, but suddenly, from one corner to the next, my lap times dropped by three seconds, which was just unbelievable."

"That situation caught me off guard, leading to significant losses. However, we performed well on the Hard, although it only allowed us to secure third and fourth places."

Leclerc trails McLaren's Norris by 21 points in the drivers' championship, with only two races left in the season.

In the constructors' championship, Ferrari has reduced McLaren's lead to 24 points.

Aldeguer mentioned that he began utilizing it right from the initial lap, stating, "I need to make this an automatic habit."

"The initial attempt was intense because there were moments when I engaged it, but I didn't activate it properly by braking firmly enough. As a result, I found myself in the third corner with the bike still not upright!"

"I utilized it throughout each lap and ultimately ended up with a strong finish."

Aldeguer, a standout performer at the close of the 2023 Moto2 season despite securing only three victories, ended the test as the quickest newcomer, placing 20th overall and trailing his new teammate Alex Marquez by 1.761 seconds.

"The teenager, now part of the Gresini team previously associated with Marc Marquez and led by Frankie Carchedi, stated, 'Aiming to be the top rookie is our goal, but it's important to remain composed and progress gradually.'"

Alongside the ride height mechanism, Aldeguer had to familiarize himself with Michelin tires and carbon brakes while completing 58 laps on the championship-winning GP24.

He stated, "Today went really well as I felt amazing with the bike right from the first lap."

"The overall experience was astonishing, from the rapid acceleration to the impressive speed. However, the most significant aspect was the braking point. It’s remarkable how you can brake much later than expected and still bring the bike to a stop. Grasping this concept during the initial laps was quite challenging."

"The tires differ greatly from the Pirelli ones used in Moto2, but pinpointing the exact differences is challenging since the motorcycle itself is also distinct."

"Michelin's tyres have an asymmetrical design, allowing you to push more on the left side. However, the tyres might have been slightly cold, which caused me to lose grip at the front and crash. I need additional laps to gain a better understanding."

"I need to focus on refining my technique with the bike. It's too soon to concentrate on the settings; we'll evaluate the situation when we get to Sepang."

"The Ducati crew and my team were pleased."

Similar to other new entrants Somkiat Chantra and Ai Ogura, Aldeguer understands the importance of working out during the winter months.

He mentioned that he's generally feeling positive about his physical state, experiencing just a slight arm pump and recovering from hand surgery, but acknowledged that he needs to prepare more for enduring a long race.

The trio of newcomers will have the opportunity to participate in the Sepang shakedown test, commencing on January 31, prior to the official test.

Jack Doohan Revives Kimi Raikkonen’s Iconic F1 Number for 2025 Debut with Alpine

The racing number once used by Kimi Raikkonen will return to the Formula 1 scene in 2025.

The race number previously used by Kimi Raikkonen is set to return to Formula 1 in the upcoming year.

Jack Doohan has announced that he plans to adopt Raikkonen's iconic race number when he enters Formula 1 in 2025.

Next season, the Australian will join the Alpine team as a driver, taking over from Esteban Ocon to line up alongside Pierre Gasly as his new partner. He will compete under the number 7 for his debut year.

The number that Raikkonen used from 2014 to 2021 is now open for other drivers to use, in accordance with F1 regulations. This availability comes after the 2007 world champion's retirement.

In 2019, Doohan competed in the Euroformula Open Championship with the number 7, but initially aimed to race with the number 12 in 2025.

Mercedes prodigy Andrea Kimi Antonelli has claimed this number.

"That's the decision. I'll be using the number seven for my race in 2025. I'm really excited," Doohan announced in a video released by Alpine.

"I was eager to choose a number I had used in previous races, one that held significance for me. In 2019, I competed with the number seven."

"Additionally, Kimi Raikkonen, who is one of my heroes and an exceptional individual and racer, used that number as well."

"I'm eager to carry on with it and put my personal touch on it. Hopefully, I'll also get some good fortune from the number seven."

At the Italian Grand Prix, Antonelli announced that he had selected the number 12 to be his permanent racing number in Formula 1. This decision comes as he is set to take over the spot of Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, at Mercedes.

"I'll go with the number 12," he commented. "I have several favorite numbers, but 12 holds a special place for me, partly due to someone I admire. I've been using it since F4, and it's always brought good fortune. So, I see no reason to switch it up for the coming year."

Ducati is taking a significant gamble by bringing Marquez on board for the next season.

"I'm not a technical expert, but the goal for the day was to hear his initial impressions," stated Ducati's sporting director, Mauro Grassilli, during the postseason MotoGP test, as reported by Marca.

When he got into the booth, his initial comment was, "I like the bike." Hearing that brought me a sense of relief.

"Right from the start, our goal was to include him as part of the team. We engaged in discussions with his agent to reach agreements on various aspects, including sponsorships."

"Experiencing the outcome of efforts that started several months back was an unparalleled feeling. Watching him on the track and having him with us in the pit box was a wonderful emotion."

Marquez's debut in red marked the beginning of his adventure with Pecco Bagnaia, the leading rider for the official Ducati team.

With identical equipment, the top motorcycle in MotoGP, both Bagnaia and Marquez are setting their sights on the championship for the upcoming year.

It increases the attention on how Ducati handles their goals.

However, the initial day with Bagnaia and Marquez sharing the same garage went smoothly and without any issues.

Grassilli mentioned that he observed them conversing and noticed that they were expressing their emotions to one another, both experiencing the same sentiments while cycling.

"They are both experts in their field, and while it might seem odd to emphasize that we already understood this, it aligns with our goals. We desire both riders to work collaboratively in enhancing the bike's performance and ensuring the team's success."

"On the first day, it wasn't something we expected, but witnessing them communicate and exchange ideas while having a clear and unified perspective on the bike was the initial acknowledgment of the efforts we are beginning to undertake."

"When the team's two key members, the riders, share the same goal, which is what we are striving for, I believe that although it may not always be straightforward, it will be a rewarding experience next year."

Following a period of diminished competitiveness since their summer hiatus, Mercedes made a surprising comeback in Las Vegas. George Russell led the charge, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton, marking the team's first one-two finish since their success in Brazil in 2022.

Mercedes secured their fourth victory of the season, marking their first triumph since the Belgian Grand Prix in late July. Team principal Toto Wolff believes that the cooler weather conditions in Las Vegas contributed to their impressive performance.

"It's chilly. Wolff clarified that you can easily see the connection to where we've had success."

"We performed well at Silverstone, showed strength at Spa, and again here in Las Vegas. The key is maintaining the car's performance and ensuring the tyres are in their ideal state."

"The text highlights the impressive speed of the car, noting that at certain points, particularly when George was accelerating, it was two seconds faster than the competitors. For the remainder of the day, he focused on maintaining a steady pace."

He explained: "Losing traction in hot conditions often causes you to slide around constantly. However, in this situation, losing traction was beneficial because it helped maintain the necessary temperature levels."

"There's a noticeable trend where certain teams excel and perform exceptionally well in cold conditions, while other teams have shown great strength in hot weather."

In Singapore, the McLaren team, for instance, had a commanding performance and managed the race according to their strategy. Therefore, achieving a balanced approach for the upcoming year is crucial.

Wolff expressed surprise that Mercedes managed to avoid the graining problems that affected some of their competitors, with Ferrari being a notable example.

"We had the ability to accelerate at will, with no issues related to tire graining on either the medium or hard compounds," he stated. "Charles made several efforts to challenge George, but George defended his position excellently."

"I'm not sure what the result might have been, but Leclerc ended up going off the cliff after just a few laps. He couldn't maintain the speed, and we didn't notice any signs of tire graining or wear."

Wolff believes that the information gathered from the Vegas event will be essential for Mercedes to identify and comprehend the present shortcomings of the W15.

"This is a significant outcome," he commented. "There are variations during the weekend, and typically you can observe that we've performed well in some practice sessions, while our performance hasn't been as strong in others."

"In this case, we consistently outperformed in each session. We've gathered a wealth of valuable information that helps us understand our ideal conditions, and now we know where we need to aim. The next step is figuring out how to reach that point more frequently."
