Eco-consciousness: Hong Kong high-end carpet manufacturer embraces sustainable measures
Tai Ping, a company that produces carpets priced as high as US$5,000 per square meter, is reacting to the increasing demand for environmentally-friendly materials and methods.
A growing number of high-end consumers now consider sustainability as important as uniqueness and craftsmanship when choosing brands worthy of their substantial support. Moreover, in certain regions, laws require consideration of environmental aspects.
Consequently, sustainability has become a crucial aspect and a potential prospect for high-end brands. It is an essential element to take into account along with performance in the material acquisition process and productivity in the manufacturing process. This is according to Tai Ping Carpets International, a Hong Kong-based worldwide provider of bespoke high-quality carpets.
Joel Frommann, the chief strategy officer, stated that the firm has been enhancing machinery and improving processes at its Xiamen facility, located in the Fujian province of Southeast China. In response to customer demands for greener products, the company is also shifting its focus to eco-friendly materials.
"A majority of our larger customers come to our Xiamen-based workshop for their yearly audits related to environmental, social, and governance aspects, especially those large-scale European clients who are bound by more rigorous rules," he stated. "Many are now opting for items made from natural, biodegradable, and long-lasting materials."
The handmade rugs from Tai Ping begin at a price of US$600 per square meter, escalating to US$5,000 for the ones featuring intricate custom-made designs and various materials.
