Sergio Perez Quashes Retirement Rumors with ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ Assurance: Commits to F1 Through 2025 Amidst Red Bull Challenges
Sergio Perez confirms he will definitely remain in 2025, clarifying his 'Wolf of Wall Street' message
"I simply intended to assure everyone that I'll definitely stick around next year. I'm under contract and I intend to honor it."
Sergio Perez has clarified his widely shared 'Wolf of Wall Street' reaction to speculation that he plans to reveal his retirement from Formula 1 at the upcoming Mexico City Grand Prix.
Experienced Formula 1 reporter Joe Saward disclosed last month that Perez plans to reveal his exit from the sport to his local supporters at the upcoming Mexico City race.
Perez faces challenges in retaining his position for the 2025 Formula 1 season, even with an existing contract, as Red Bull considers Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda as potential replacements.
The driver from Red Bull turned to X (previously known as Twitter) to quell rumors regarding his career plans by posting a well-known scene featuring esteemed actor Leonardo DiCaprio from the movie 'The Wolf of Wall Street', in which he declares: "I’m not leaving".
Discussing his playful message online, Perez mentioned in Austin, "It's just that occasionally, these speculations get connected and a lot of individuals, particularly in Mexico with the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix, start to believe them.
"I didn't want my supporters to be deceived by incorrect details. I simply aimed to clarify that I will definitely be present next year. I'm under contract and I intend to honor it.
"I'm not thinking about that. Right now, I'm focused on resolving the current problems with the car."
Perez is optimistic that the new improvements Red Bull has planned for this weekend will help narrow the gap with McLaren.
Red Bull, alongside most teams in the lineup, plans to roll out major final enhancements to their vehicles for the season's remaining six races.
Red Bull faces a new obstacle due to the FIA's stricter controls on their ride height mechanism.
Discussing the improvements planned for this weekend, Perez mentioned, "There's a level of uncertainty due to the wind tunnel; it appears we're facing a problem with the correlation, so it's unclear to us."
"We don't have specific statistics at this point. Our focus is on altering the aspects that have been challenging for us over the past 18 months. We aim to regain our previous momentum. This track presents a favorable opportunity for us to test our changes. Should our performance improve here, becoming competitive, it could significantly redirect our championship prospects."
