Revving Up: Mick Schumacher’s Potential Comeback with Audi’s Sauber Seat in 2025

Mick Schumacher sees a potential opportunity in F1 as Audi's recent announcement offers him hope. He has become a surprise candidate for the last available seat in the 2025 F1 season.

Mattia Binotto, the new head of Audi's Formula 1 team, has indicated that Mick Schumacher could be considered for the last available spot at Sauber for the upcoming season.

The last available spot for the 2025 season is at the Sauber team, owned by Audi. They are currently determining who will join Nico Hulkenberg as his teammate, as Hulkenberg is set to move from Haas after this year concludes.

Valtteri Bottas, who currently holds the position, is a top candidate. Meanwhile, Franco Colapinto, who has stepped in for Williams, and Gabriel Bortoleto, who is at the forefront of the F2 championship, are also thought to be contenders.

Binotto has announced that Schumacher, who has filled the role of reserve driver for Mercedes over the last two seasons following his departure from Haas at the conclusion of 2022, has emerged as a last-minute candidate for the driving position.

"We have the advantage of taking our time because every other team has already chosen their line-ups," Binotto mentioned to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

"There are two main choices: one involves having experience to guide us towards development. The other choice is a young, skilled driver who can join us on our journey to reach the pinnacle."

When asked whether Schumacher, whose father is the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, is being considered by the team, Binotto responded, "We are certainly assessing his potential."

"I had the opportunity to meet and converse with him. Having been associated with the Ferrari Driver Academy for quite some time, I am familiar with his capabilities and the benefits he brings. He is among the individuals we are considering."

Binotto became acquainted with Schumacher during his tenure as Ferrari's team principal, a time when the 25-year-old German was involved in the Scuderia's development program for young drivers.

In a recent conversation with Sky Germany, Schumacher expressed his desire to secure the final position available on the F1 grid for the 2025 season.

"If it comes to that and Plan A fails, I'll handle the situation," he stated. "You always need to have a Plan B in mind. Right now, I'm uncertain about the direction things are heading."
