Speculation was rampant as the weekend approached regarding Ricciardo's career prospects, yet notably, no official statements had been made by VCARB or Red Bull.
Riccardo's final departure from Formula 1 was made public shortly after the Singapore Grand Prix, roughly a week afterwards.
This implied that Ricciardo couldn't experience a conventional goodbye.
During the FIA press briefing in Austin, Mekies acknowledged the circumstances were aggravating.
"Mekies expressed that it was indeed a difficult and less than perfect situation to endure over the weekend, both for him personally and professionally, as well as for the entire team involved."
Prior to the weekend, we engaged in conversations. Due to various factors, we collectively decided to enter the weekend without making an announcement. Following that decision, we had to manage the situation.
"Looking back, whether we would choose the same path is uncertain, but at the time, both the drivers and the team agreed it was the right course of action to take."
Mekies believes that Ricciardo still received a wonderful farewell.
"He explained that, in various ways, everyone managed to show the immense affection that exists for Daniel within the sport and from the fans towards Daniel. He was unsure if the situation could have been improved or not."
"Definitely a departure from the norm, leaning towards tradition. I'd like to think that the overwhelming sense of compassion and affection we experienced over that weekend truly set it apart, demonstrating that he transcends being just an F1 driver. He's more than just Formula 1."
