Oscar Piastri Weighs Team Orders as McLaren Eyes Lando Norris’ F1 Title Push After Sprint Pole Win
Oscar Piastri addressed the topic of team orders from McLaren after outperforming Lando Norris. He mentioned that while Lando has a greater need for points in the drivers' championship, his own desire to secure a win remains strong.
Oscar Piastri is ready to back Lando Norris in his quest for the F1 championship, even though Piastri secured the pole position over Norris for the sprint race at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Piastri edged out Norris in SQ3 to claim the top starting position for tomorrow's sprint, leading a McLaren 1-2 finish.

It remained an encouraging day for Norris, especially as his F1 championship competitor Max Verstappen secured the fourth position in qualifying, trailing Charles Leclerc.
For the first time in several months, Piastri has matched Norris' speed, having previously faced difficulties in Singapore, the USA, and Mexico.
During the first lap of the Italian Grand Prix, Piastri passed Norris, putting the British driver in a position where he could be challenged by Leclerc.
This event sparked a broader debate within McLaren about team orders and whether Piastri should assist in Norris' pursuit of the championship.
When questioned about the potential for team orders at the Brazil race, Piastri responded by saying, "We'll evaluate how fast both of us are tomorrow. Our main goal is to secure first and second place, and then we'll determine the sequence."
"I understand that I'm not competing for the championship title. For the team, it makes no difference who is ahead. I'm aware of that. We'll just have to wait and see how things unfold."
Upon being asked if he would yield to his teammate, Piastri responded: "Yes, I agreed to do so when we initially talked about it. While winning would be great, it's just a one-point difference."
"This isn't the primary competition. We'll have to wait and see. Lando is in greater need of the points for his position in the drivers' championship compared to me, but naturally, I still have the desire to come out on top."
"If I work hard and maintain a strong pace, I'm confident that it will be recognized. We'll see what happens."
Heading into SQ3, Norris was widely expected to take pole position after dominating the earlier sessions.
Following the initial stint in SQ3, Piastri trailed by almost 0.3 seconds.
Discussing what helped Piastri achieve the "key to pole," he mentioned: "I'm not entirely certain. In the initial lap during SQ1, I delivered an impressive performance and chose not to attempt another run at the end of SQ1. It seemed that the track conditions were improving rapidly, becoming roughly 1.5 seconds faster by the conclusion. I believe I was gradually closing the gap throughout the subsequent laps."
"During the final lap on soft tires, they held up for an additional lap, which was great, and I succeeded in securing pole position."

Revving Up: Loic Serra’s Innovations at Ferrari Aim to Eliminate Hamilton’s Qualifying Woes for the 2025 F1 Season
Insights into Loic Serra's modifications to Ferrari could address Lewis Hamilton's vulnerabilities
New information reveals Ferrari's strategy for their 2025 F1 vehicle…
Loic Serra, who recently joined Ferrari, is significantly impacting the development of Ferrari's car for the 2025 season, and this might lead to a resurgence for Lewis Hamilton.
As reported by Motorsport.it, Serra has been concentrating on the suspension system of the new Ferrari and its connection with the Pirelli tires.
A challenge Ferrari encountered in their 2024 season was that they were gentler on their tires compared to their competitors.
This resulted in Ferrari frequently experiencing significant wear on their rear tires during the races.
However, there was a significant drawback: their speed during the qualifying rounds.
As Ferrari aims to get back to winning championships, they need to concentrate on enhancing their performance in qualifying rounds, especially considering the expected strength of McLaren and Red Bull.
According to the report, Serra, who has recently made the switch from Mercedes to Ferrari, is focusing on various aspects of the suspension system, including the torsion bars and shock absorbers, in an effort to enhance the car's performance with the delicate Pirelli tires.
Ferrari aims to find a middle ground between their performance in qualifying sessions and during races. While they were outstanding in single-lap qualifying in 2023, they faced difficulties in the race season a year later.
Throughout the past year, it was common to see Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz having difficulties in the initial part of the race due to problems with warming up their tyres. Additionally, they often faced challenges towards the end of the lap as their tyres tended to overheat.
As Hamilton joins Ferrari, these modifications, aimed at enhancing their performance in qualifying sessions, will be well-received.
In 2024, Hamilton struggled the most in qualifying, as he was outperformed by George Russell in the head-to-head matchups, losing 19 times to Russell's 5 victories.
Ferrari is preparing for Hamilton's debut
On February 19, after the unveiling of their team, Hamilton is anticipated to have the opportunity to test drive the 2025 Ferrari Formula 1 car.
He is scheduled to test drive the 2022 Ferrari vehicle in a number of sessions to familiarize himself with his new engineering team before the official tests commence at the end of February.
According to reports, Ferrari has modified the cockpit position for the next season to help Hamilton get accustomed more easily.
The earlier mentioned report states that changes have been applied to the gearbox's carbon box, which improves the ability to balance weight more effectively.
Under Serra’s leadership, Ferrari is eager to break their Formula 1 championship dry spell, which has lasted since 2008.
Ferrari came close to winning the 2024 F1 constructors' championship but ultimately ended up 13 points short of McLaren.

Christian Horner Downplays Impact of Key Departures, Emphasizes Red Bull’s Evolution Ahead of 2025 F1 Season
Christian Horner addresses the exit of important Red Bull F1 team members.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner remains unfazed by the departure of crucial staff.
Christian Horner has sought to minimize the significance of two key individuals leaving Red Bull before the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Renowned designer Adrian Newey is set to become Aston Martin's managing technical partner starting on March 2. This move comes after Newey, a 65-year-old from Britain, chose to depart from Red Bull, where he spent two decades in Milton Keynes.
Jonathan Wheatley, who previously served as the sporting director for Red Bull, has departed the team. He is set to take on the role of team principal at Sauber, as they prepare for their transition to Audi in 2026.
However, Christian Horner, the head of the Red Bull team, asserts that they can maintain their success even in the absence of Newey and Wheatley.
"There are just two people involved, and since Adrian departed in Miami, we haven't had any contact with him. He has been focusing on the RB17 project since that time, meaning he hasn't been involved in any Formula 1 work," Horner explained to Motorsport.
It's clear that their departure is disappointing. Both individuals have significantly contributed to the team during their time with us.
"The performance continues, and I believe we possess both the resilience and the resources needed. We are preparing for 2026, which presents the greatest challenge and most daring undertaking this team has ever faced with the development of our own power unit."
"In 2025, Jonathan will leave his position on the pitwall, but aside from that, nothing else will change."
Red Bull's Strategy: Evolution Over Rebuilding
Horner has rejected claims that Red Bull must "rebuild" their team after recent departures. He believes the team is simply undergoing a phase of "evolution."
Horner clarified that describing the situation as a rebuild is an exaggeration, given that only two individuals have departed. He suggested that it is more accurately characterized as a process of evolution.
"This has been anticipated for some time and has been included in the plans for a while now."
As Red Bull undergoes restructuring, Max Verstappen's race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, is set to take on a more significant position.
Horner has announced that Lambiase will continue to serve as the race engineer for the four-time world champion. The Dutch driver is aiming to achieve a feat similar to Michael Schumacher by securing five consecutive world titles by 2025.
"Indeed, he will continue collaborating directly with Max. However, as he advances, his responsibilities will naturally expand," Horner explained.
Being at the track with those team members is simply a natural evolution. It's fantastic because it provides them with opportunities, and if an organization doesn't move forward, it risks becoming stagnant and not advancing.
"I believe this is a great chance for many long-term team members to advance, as they truly deserve this opportunity."

Reshuffle Shocker: Aston Martin’s Leadership Shakeup and Mike Krack’s Subtle Hints Ahead of 2025 F1 Season
Aston Martin's leadership changes came as a surprise, but Mike Krack had previously hinted at them. According to Lewis Larkam, significant shifts within the company had been suggested in the past few months.
Significant transformations are taking place at Aston Martin just before the start of the 2025 F1 season.
On Friday, Aston Martin revealed a significant shake-up in their management team, appointing CEO Andy Cowell as the new team principal, a role formerly occupied by Mike Krack.
Krack, who took on the role of team principal in 2022, has now been reassigned to the newly created position of chief trackside officer. In this capacity, he will oversee the performance at each grand prix event in 2025.
Enrico Cardille, previously in charge of Ferrari's chassis operations, is set to lead the development efforts at the factory as the chief technical officer. He will be responsible for managing the design, structure, and construction of new racing vehicles. The exact date when Cardille will begin his new role has not been announced yet.
Tom McCullough, formerly the performance director, will stay with the organization. Aston Martin refers to his new role as a "leadership position," where he will be crucial in helping the team grow into more racing categories.
Aston Martin's statement did not refer to the renowned designer Adrian Newey, who is set to become the managing technical partner at the Silverstone team on March 2, after leaving Red Bull.
Aston Martin has stated that the modifications were made to provide "clearer leadership" and to transition towards a "more streamlined organizational structure."
Cowell, who led Mercedes' F1 engine department from 2008 to 2020, is stepping into the position of team principal for the first time.
A 55-year-old British individual took on the role of group CEO at Aston Martin in October of the previous year. Over the past few months, they have been assessing strategies to maximize the team's performance, aligning with owner Lawrence Stroll's high aspirations for the team to emerge as world championship contenders in the near future.
Cowell mentioned that over the past three months, he has been evaluating and analyzing their performance. He expressed his admiration for the team's dedication, commitment, and hard work.
As we finalize the construction of the AMR Technology Campus and gear up to become a fully independent team in 2026, we are on the path to establishing ourselves as a team capable of winning championships.
"These changes within the organization are a natural progression of the long-term strategies we've set in motion, and I'm extremely enthusiastic about what lies ahead."
Did Mike Krack Suggest a Possible Reorganization?
Although the reorganization might appear unexpected to outsiders, Krack seemed to allude to potential adjustments during an exclusive interview with Crash.net at the final race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
At the beginning of 2023, Aston Martin came out strong, positioning themselves as the closest competitors to Red Bull after the winter break. Fernando Alonso, a two-time champion, secured podium finishes in six of the first eight races. However, the team's performance has significantly declined since then.
In 2023, Aston Martin's competitors surpassed them in terms of development, and this worrisome pattern persisted into 2024. During this season, the team didn't achieve a podium finish and accumulated less than half of the 280 points they had secured the year before.
Aston Martin maintained its position in fifth place in the constructors' championship for the second consecutive year, suggesting consistency on the surface. However, in practical terms, the team actually lost ground to the top Formula 1 teams, instead of narrowing the distance to the leaders.
Krack confessed to Crash.net that Aston Martin had to evaluate themselves critically following their inability to achieve their goals.
Krack mentioned that this is a time for introspection. He pointed out that these challenges have been present for around 18 months, dating back to the middle of 2023. It's not something that can be dismissed as an isolated incident.
"We have observed repeatedly that our progress in performance development has not met expectations. It's essential to examine this issue closely. We are actively investigating the matter since the team has expanded rapidly."
"You possess an established framework. What is our organizational setup? What are our methods and communication channels during performance development? It's crucial to recognize that our current approach is not yielding successful outcomes. Therefore, we need to re-evaluate our process."
"Currently, we are engaged in these activities and need to talk about potential modifications or if there's a need to adjust any of our procedures."
In November, the initial alterations occurred when Dan Fallows resigned from his position as technical director, having held the role for two years. This decision was influenced by Cowell.
In the weeks leading up to the start of the new season, Cowell has further solidified his influence at Aston Martin by implementing another major restructuring of the team's leadership.
It remains to be seen if Aston Martin's performance will improve in the final year before the introduction of new regulations in 2026, which are expected to disrupt the current hierarchy.
Aston Martin plans to seriously challenge the top teams in Formula 1 by 2026, thanks to Honda joining as their engine collaborator, the launch of a cutting-edge wind tunnel, and the complete involvement of Newey.

From Debut Dreams to Disappointment: The Untold Stories of F1 Drivers Razia and Doohan
The Formula 1 racer who lost his spot before debuting
The overlooked tale of a Formula 1 driver who was removed from his team before even starting a race…
Having participated in only a single F1 race, Jack Doohan is already facing significant pressure to retain his position with Alpine for the 2025 season.
On Thursday, Alpine revealed that Franco Colapinto has been brought on board from Williams under a "multi-year" contract to serve as their latest test and reserve driver.
With numerous rumors swirling about Colapinto and Flavio Briatore's interest, it seems that Doohan's stint in Formula 1 may not last long.
Alpine has confirmed that Doohan will be driving at the beginning of the season, yet the Australian finds himself in a progressively uncomfortable situation.
For Doohan, he had the opportunity to make his Formula 1 debut with Alpine, taking over for Esteban Ocon during the final race of the season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
A Brazilian driver named Luiz Razia was contracted by a Formula 1 team but did not participate in the season's opening race.
In 2013, the small team Marussia decided to go with two new Formula 1 drivers, choosing Razia and British racer Max Chilton for their lineup.
Marussia was among the trio of teams that entered the racing circuit at the beginning of 2010.
As of 2013, HRT had disappeared from the racing scene, whereas Marussia and Caterham had not yet managed to secure any points.
In a bid to stay afloat in the Formula 1 circuit, Marussia brought Razia on board primarily because of the substantial financial support he offered.
The Brazilian driver stepped in to take the place of seasoned racer Timo Glock for the next season, which, at least theoretically, resulted in a significant downgrade of their driving team.
Razia was elevated from the position of reserve driver to a full-time driver quite late, with the confirmation only arriving in February, coinciding with the start of the 2013 pre-season testing.
Razia's departure opens the door for Ferrari's young talent. Three weeks later, Marussia let go of Razia because his sponsors from Brazil failed to make their second payment.
In an interview with Autosport, team leader John Booth detailed the choice, saying, "We have been compelled to end our agreement with Luiz Razia."
"After establishing the foundation for our operations in 2013 and implementing the necessary changes to support this new framework, we had no choice but to adhere to the fundamental principles we had determined were essential for ensuring our long-term success."
This meant that Razia, even though he had signed with the team, never had the chance to participate in his first Formula 1 race.
Remarkably, what initially seemed unfortunate turned out to be advantageous, as Marussia managed to secure Ferrari's promising young talent, Jules Bianchi.
Bianchi thrived with the team, achieving their initial points during the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix.
The French driver's impressive showings might have secured him a potential spot with Ferrari if not for the unfortunate crash he experienced at the Japanese Grand Prix in 2014.
In challenging weather at Suzuka, Bianchi's car went out of control and ended up sliding beneath a recovery vehicle.
He remained in a medically induced coma for the next nine months before sadly dying on July 17, 2015.
The impact of Bianchi's legacy is still evident in Formula 1, particularly through the implementation of the Halo safety feature.
He was also the godparent of Charles Leclerc, who currently drives for Ferrari.

Two Days of Silence: Lewis Hamilton’s Secret Superbike Test and the Crash That Left Toto Wolff in the Dark
Title: Toto Wolff Reveals Lewis Hamilton's Secret Superbike Test and Brief Disappearance
In 2018, Lewis Hamilton went off the radar for two days after secretly trying out a Superbike.
Lewis Hamilton participated in a Superbike test without public knowledge, and during this event, he experienced a crash, as recounted by Toto Wolff.
In 2018, Hamilton, who has won the Formula 1 championship seven times, caused concern for his F1 team leader by not communicating for two days. This happened when he joined the Crescent Racing team at Jerez.
His passion for motorcycle racing is widely recognized. In addition to having his own custom MV Agusta bike, Hamilton participated in a bike swap with MotoGP icon Valentino Rossi in 2019. Over the past year, there have been reports connecting him to potential investments in two MotoGP teams.
Six years back, shortly after clinching his fifth Formula 1 title, Hamilton participated in a two-day testing session at Jerez, riding a YZF-R1 Superbike. This event was organized and supervised by the Crescent Racing team from the World Superbike Championship.

Amazing couple of days in Jerez 🏍💨🔥 @alexlowes22 @mickeyvdmark @PataYamahaWSBK @MonsterEnergy pic.twitter.com/1uIwgmKx7r
Michael van der Mark, who was a Yamaha rider in the World Superbike Championship, mentioned to motorsport.com that Hamilton had to be advised to ease off on speed since "he showed no fear whatsoever."
Wolff disclosed that he was unable to reach Hamilton for two days, as Hamilton had conducted the test in secret. During this time, Wolff was unaware that Hamilton had been involved in a crash.
When questioned about his presence at the 2019 ride swap event in Valencia featuring Rossi and Hamilton, Wolff explained on the Armchair Expert podcast, "I wasn't there, but I had to approve it. So, I did, and I believe they both had a great time."
Lewis is that student who always gets things done quickly and perfectly, often irritating his classmates.
Let me share a biking story with you. Without my knowledge, they went to test bikes in Jerez. One of my top strategy team members, who happens to be an engineer and a motorcycle enthusiast, became unreachable for a couple of days.
When Lewis's engineer answered the call, he reassured that everything was okay. He mentioned that they had just completed their biking session and assured that Lewis was in good condition, regardless of any rumors.
I asked, "What occurred?" He took a fall. However, he was just four seconds behind the professional MotoGP racers.
"Incredible. His awareness of his body is what defines him as a champion."
Hamilton emerged from his accident without any injuries.
Wolff's statement is difficult to confirm because no official times were published. However, it's important to approach it with some skepticism since van der Mark remarked, "I am aware he has the potential to be significantly quicker, but it's challenging to foresee his capabilities on a motorcycle."
"He has been riding for just four days and is about seven seconds slower than the Yamaha WSBK riders. Despite this, he is still quicker than the majority of other riders at track days."
In early 2018, Hamilton had the opportunity to ride a Superbike during a Monster Energy event alongside Cal Crutchlow, who is a three-time MotoGP race winner, in California.
In the past few weeks, Pit Beirer, the head of motorsport at KTM, disclosed in an interview with Speedweek that the Austrian company, which is facing challenges, engaged in "definite" talks with Hamilton's management regarding a possible investment.
Lewis Hamilton is set to join Ferrari for the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Red Bull’s Final Lap with Honda: Christian Horner Vows to End Partnership with a Bang in 2025
Christian Horner has promised something significant for the 2025 Formula 1 season as Red Bull gears up for its last year partnered with Honda. 2025 will mark the final chapter of the Red Bull-Honda collaboration.
Christian Horner has committed to ensuring that Red Bull and Honda will explore every possible avenue to finish their F1 collaboration in 2025 with success.
Since the beginning of 2019, Honda has been providing engines to Red Bull, following Red Bull's daring choice to part ways with Renault.
Until now, Honda had not experienced any triumphs in Formula 1, with their image severely damaged after three disappointing years partnered with McLaren.
After spending a successful year with Toro Rosso, which is Red Bull's partner team, in 2018, Red Bull decided to take a risk by partnering with Honda.
The strategy proved successful when Max Verstappen achieved his highest placement in the championship in 2019, and went on to claim his first title in 2021.
Following that period, Verstappen and Red Bull have taken control of the sport, with the Dutch driver securing three additional championship titles.
In a video shared on Honda Racing Global's X account, Horner looked back on their "historic" collaboration.
He stated that the collaboration between Red Bull and Honda in Formula 1 will conclude in 2025.
"Seven years back, when we declared our transition from our previous supplier to using Honda power units, there were some who questioned our choice."
"Throughout the years, we've demonstrated through numerous historic achievements, like winning 21 out of 22 races in 2023, that our decision was spot on. As we head into the last season, both Red Bull and HRC are committed to exploring every possible avenue to secure victory."
"In the meantime, we are diligently collaborating to aim for victory in each race and to clinch additional championship titles."
Red Bull is set to embark on a new chapter in F1 in 2026, as they plan to end their partnership with Honda and introduce their own power unit for the first time.
Following Honda's decision to exit the sport at the conclusion of 2021, the team established Red Bull Powertrains.
In late 2020, they made a choice that they seemed to later wish they hadn't.
Max Verstappen secured the 2021 championship title, powered by a Honda engine.
Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that Honda would be making a comeback to Formula 1 by collaborating with Aston Martin starting in 2026.
In 2026, engine manufacturers will face significant changes with the introduction of new regulations for power units.
The Formula 1 engines for the 2026 season will feature increased electrification due to the elimination of the MGU-H component, and they will operate using eco-friendly fuels.
In 2026, Honda is among the five companies producing engines for the grid.
They are joined by Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull Powertrains, and Audi.

Alpine’s Bold Move: Franco Colapinto’s Arrival Casts Shadows Over Jack Doohan’s F1 Future
Is Jack Doohan's fate sealed already? The implications of Alpine's unexpected decision
Franco Colapinto's entry into Alpine casts doubt on Jack Doohan's Formula 1 prospects.
Franco Colapinto's unexpected move to Alpine has put Jack Doohan's Formula 1 career in a precarious position, even before it has truly begun.
This decision follows an impressive breakthrough for the 21-year-old Argentine driver. His debut season in Formula 2 was put on hold when he was called up by Williams to take over from Logan Sargeant, who was dismissed before the Italian Grand Prix.
Colapinto had an impressive debut in Formula 1, managing to make it to the third qualifying session and earn points in only his second race in Azerbaijan. Over the course of the nine grand prix events he participated in, he accumulated a total of five points. He rapidly proved to be an upgrade from Sargeant, who had been facing difficulties.
Colapinto's impressive performance as a substitute drew interest from multiple teams, such as Alpine and Red Bull. These teams recognized that Williams had no vacancies, having already secured Carlos Sainz to team up with Alex Albon starting in 2025.
A string of significant accidents near the season's conclusion somewhat diminished the shine of Colapinto's initial showings. Although Red Bull's enthusiasm waned, choosing instead to lean on their existing talent pool to address the Sergio Perez situation, Alpine continued to be captivated by the young driver who had surpassed their anticipations.
The potential for commercial success and backing from sponsors in his home country of Argentina increased the appeal of Colapinto. Towards the end of last year, Alpine engaged in discussions with his management regarding the possibility of transitioning to Enstone with the aim of securing a future driving position.
Flavio Briatore, who serves as an executive advisor for Alpine, was seen having a conversation with Colapinto in the Formula 1 paddock during the second-to-last race of the season in Qatar. It is believed that Briatore played a key role in advocating for the arrangement to take place.
Colapinto is now strongly considered for a permanent F1 position, possibly starting this season.
How This Affects Jack Doohan
The news on Thursday about Colapinto becoming part of Alpine’s expanding group of test and reserve drivers under a "multi-year" contract is likely unfavorable for Doohan.
The 21-year-old from Australia is facing significant pressure even before his career in the grand prix has officially started, and there are already doubts about his future in Formula 1.
Doohan, whose father Mick Doohan is a five-time MotoGP champion, participated in his first Formula 1 race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, stepping in for Esteban Ocon after the French driver left the team earlier than anticipated.
Doohan began at the back of the grid and ended up in 15th place in his debut grand prix. He lagged behind his teammate Pierre Gasly by half a second, with Gasly securing a seventh-place finish and earning points. Alpine aimed to give Doohan an early boost in getting ready for his Formula 1 career.
Briatore has affirmed that Doohan is set to compete for Alpine in 2025, beginning with the Australian Grand Prix on March 16th.
Before Doohan's move was officially announced, Briatore reportedly told Le Parisien, "The only certainty in life is death! I can assure you that we will begin the year with Pierre and Jack."
Briatore suggested that Doohan's tenure with Alpine will depend on his performance.
"Following that, we'll evaluate how things unfold as the season advances," he added. "It's my responsibility to ensure the team is in optimal shape to achieve success, and the driver is tasked with completing the efforts of nearly 1,000 individuals supporting him. All the work is ultimately for just two individuals."
"In Formula 1, if a driver fails to show improvement and deliver results, I replace them. There's no room for sentimentality in this sport."
Initial indications from Briatore align with the idea that Doohan has been brought on board with a temporary race contract. By bringing Colapinto into the fold, Alpine secures a reliable contingency plan if Doohan does not perform as anticipated.
Williams hinted at the possibility of Colapinto stepping in to replace Doohan this year, as they confirmed Doohan's departure from the team.
According to Williams team principal James Vowles, the combination of Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz gives Williams a very strong driver duo for the 2025 season and future years. Therefore, Vowles expressed that the partnership with Alpine offers Franco his best opportunity to land a racing position for either 2025 or 2026.
Doohan has been anticipating his opportunity in F1 for quite a while, and losing it after just a few races would be extremely unfair. However, as Briatore hinted, there is no space for emotions when performance is crucial.

Aston Martin Revamps Leadership Ahead of 2025 F1 Season: Andy Cowell Takes the Helm as Team Principal
Aston Martin unveils significant reorganization before the 2025 F1 season, including a change in team leadership. Major developments are underway at Aston Martin as they prepare for the upcoming Formula 1 season.
Aston Martin has appointed a new team principal for the 2025 Formula 1 season, with Andy Cowell taking over from Mike Krack. This move is part of a "restructuring of its senior management."
Krack will continue to be part of the team, but in the position of chief trackside officer, allowing Cowell to step into the team principal role while also serving as CEO.
In 2024, Cowell took on the role of group CEO at Aston Martin, with Lawrence Stroll as his direct supervisor.
The ex-Mercedes engine expert is set to take on the role of team principal at Aston Martin in 2025, just before significant rule changes come into effect the following year.
Conversely, Krack's latest position will be dedicated to maximizing the car's performance during races.
Ex-Ferrari designer Enrico Cardile has taken on the role of chief technical officer, where he will lead the design and construction of Aston Martin's latest F1 vehicles.
Tom McCullough has experienced a shift in his position, moving on from his previous duties as the team's performance engineer.
Although Aston Martin has not officially disclosed his specific title, he will persist in holding a leadership role within the organization.
Although Adrian Newey was not included in the team's official announcement, he is anticipated to begin his role as the managing technical partner later this year.
Regarding the announcement, Cowell expressed: “Over the past three months, I have been evaluating our performance and I've been extremely impressed with the team's dedication, commitment, and effort."
"By finalizing the AMR Technology Campus and moving to become a complete works team in 2026, in collaboration with our key partners Honda and Aramco, we are on a path to achieving the status of a Championship-winning team."
"The adjustments within the organization represent a natural progression of the long-term strategies we have planned, and I am tremendously enthusiastic about what lies ahead."
Who is Andy Cowell?
Andy Cowell is often credited as the mastermind responsible for Mercedes' engine supremacy when the hybrid era began in 2014.
Starting in 2013, he led Mercedes High Performance Powertrains. Mercedes achieved dominance in the initial phase of the hybrid era, largely due to the exceptional quality of their engine.
The customer teams, especially Williams, experienced it directly.
Williams advanced from being a lower midfield team to consistently securing podium finishes, thanks in part to the strong engine provided by Mercedes.
In mid-2020, Cowell departed from Mercedes after contributing to six constructors' championship victories.

Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari Gamble: Can the F1 Legend Succeed Where Alonso and Vettel Fell Short?
Lewis Hamilton aims to steer clear of the unsuccessful Ferrari F1 tenures experienced by other top drivers. Will Hamilton be able to overcome the challenges faced by those before him and lead Ferrari to a championship victory in Formula 1?
One of the most talked-about narratives in the history of Formula 1 is Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari.
Ever since the announcement last February about the seven-time world champion's high-profile switch from Mercedes to Ferrari, the Formula 1 community has been eagerly anticipating the collaboration between two of the most legendary and influential entities in the sport.
After coming close to winning the constructors' championship last season, which would have been their first world title since 2008, McLaren narrowly edged out Ferrari. Now, Hamilton's goal is evident: assist Ferrari in putting an end to their lengthy dry spell without a trophy.
If Hamilton manages to secure a championship for Maranello, he would solidify his reputation as one of the all-time greats, becoming the first driver to achieve this feat since Kimi Raikkonen did in 2007.
If he achieves this feat, the 40-year-old would secure his eighth world title, setting a new record. This accomplishment would place Hamilton one championship ahead of the iconic Michael Schumacher, who won five of his seven titles while racing for Ferrari.
The stories are enticingly presented, yet achieving these ambitions is often more complex than it seems in a plan. Prior to Hamilton, two other multiple-time world champions attempted this feat, but were unsuccessful.
This is a look at how the famous team of F1 has fared with the superstar drivers who preceded Hamilton.
Fernando Alonso became part of Ferrari following a disappointing two-year period with Renault. He aimed to be the catalyst for the Scuderia's comeback to victory.
After taking over from Raikkonen, Alonso's time with Ferrari kicked off with him almost clinching a championship right away.
The Spanish driver successfully closed a 47-point gap to catch up with Sebastian Vettel, taking the lead in the championship after securing a win in South Korea. Despite this, he was narrowly defeated by the Red Bull racer in a heartbreaking turn of events during the final race in Abu Dhabi. He found himself trapped behind Renault's Vitaly Petrov and, due to a strategic mistake by his team, he was unable to finish higher than seventh place.
Two years after his previous attempt, Alonso found himself competing for the championship once more, facing off against his rival Vettel. Similar to the 2010 season, the battle for the title was incredibly close, and Alonso experienced another disappointing loss decided by very small differences.
Throughout most of the season, Alonso was at the forefront of the championship race, even though his car was only the fourth quickest. However, a strong end-of-season performance by Red Bull and Vettel allowed the German driver to clinch the title, narrowly defeating Alonso by three points during a rain-soaked final race in Brazil.
If Alonso hadn't been removed from the race at Spa due to Romain Grosjean losing control, or collided with Raikkonen at Suzuka, he could have claimed his third world championship. In 2013, Alonso once again secured the second-place finish, but that year, Vettel and Red Bull had a superior setup, allowing them to comfortably clinch the championship in the latter half of the season.
Disappointed by Ferrari's inability to offer a competitive vehicle in a challenging 2014 season and frustrated by several close calls in championship races, Alonso decided to leave Ferrari two years before his contract ended and made a return to McLaren.
Vettel, a four-time world champion, joined Maranello after securing four titles in the past five years.
Sebastian Vettel became a part of the Ferrari team with the goal of achieving what Alonso couldn't and emulating his idol Schumacher by clinching the championship with the iconic Italian automaker.
In 2015, Vettel began his journey with promising results, securing three race wins and cementing his status as Ferrari's lead driver. However, it wasn't until the regulatory changes in 2017 that the team became competitive enough to vie for the championship title.
Throughout much of the 2017 season, Ferrari's car outpaced that of Mercedes, giving Sebastian Vettel an early lead in the championship battle against Lewis Hamilton. The two drivers frequently exchanged victories. However, an impulsive incident in Baku proved costly for Vettel. He lost his opportunity for a win by deliberately driving alongside Hamilton and colliding with him during a Safety Car period, resulting in a 10-second stop-go penalty for his actions.
Following the summer break, Hamilton experienced an exceptional streak of performance, while Vettel's chances at the championship took a significant hit when he was eliminated in Singapore. This race marked a crucial turning point in the 2017 season. Consecutive mechanical failures in Malaysia and Japan nearly extinguished Vettel's championship aspirations before Hamilton secured his fourth title in Mexico City.
The year 2018 held great promise for Ferrari and Vettel; however, despite having a substantial advantage with their car throughout much of the season, they ultimately fell short, with Hamilton and the Mercedes team coming out on top once again.
Vettel's performance was marred by numerous mistakes from both him and his team, with the most significant blunder taking place in Germany. There, while leading the race, Vettel crashed, allowing Hamilton to pull off an incredible victory despite starting in 14th position. Following the summer break, Hamilton maintained his dominant form, whereas Vettel struggled under pressure, missing out on another prime chance for success.
In 2019, Charles Leclerc, a promising talent nurtured by Ferrari, rose to prominence, signaling the decline of Sebastian Vettel's tenure with the team. Ultimately, Vettel's departure was driven by a mix of Leclerc's impressive performances and his own declining results, leading to a parting of ways and making room for Carlos Sainz to join in 2021.
After four years, Hamilton will have the opportunity to alter Ferrari's future. Can the British driver succeed and finally bring fortune to the Scuderia on this third attempt?

Alpine’s Strategic Move: Franco Colapinto Joins as Test Driver Amidst Williams Deal
Alpine has finalized a deal with Williams to sign Franco Colapinto for their driver lineup in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Alpine has declared that they have secured Franco Colapinto's services following a deal made with their Formula 1 competitors, Williams.
Colapinto has signed a "multi-year" contract to join Alpine as a test and reserve driver for the 2025 season.
In recent weeks, there has been significant speculation about the 21-year-old from Argentina making a transfer to Alpine.
Colapinto quickly stood out in Formula 1 after being brought in by Williams to take over for Logan Sargeant, who had not been performing well since the previous year's Italian Grand Prix.
In only his second race in Azerbaijan, he advanced to the third qualifying round and earned points, which quickly drew interest from teams such as Red Bull and Alpine due to his remarkable initial performances.
He was unable to obtain a permanent racing position for 2025 following several crashes towards the end of the season that somewhat diminished his achievements. However, Colapinto might have found a route to return to the Formula 1 grid.
Colapinto expressed his enthusiasm about becoming a part of the BWT Alpine Formula One Team. He began by thanking Williams for their unwavering support, which he appreciated from the time he entered their Academy to the final race in Abu Dhabi.
They transformed my aspiration of competing in Formula One into something real, and I will forever appreciate that. As I embark on a new phase, joining the BWT Alpine Formula One Team is indeed a privilege. I am immensely grateful to Luca de Meo, Flavio Briatore, and Oliver Oakes for their faith in me and for their warm reception into the team.
"I'm eager to begin and discover where this adventure will lead us. Additionally, I want to express my deep gratitude to all my sponsors and partners who supported me throughout the difficulties of the 2024 season."
Flavio Briatore, who serves as an executive advisor for Alpine, expressed his satisfaction about finalizing a deal with Williams Racing to bring Franco Colapinto on board. He noted that Franco stands out as one of the most promising young talents currently in motorsport.
It's safe to say that his debut on the Formula One grid last year was unexpected for many people, myself included, and his performance has been remarkable for someone new to the sport. We are focusing on our future, and bringing him on board ensures we have a strong group of young drivers to rely on and collaborate with in order to build the team towards future achievements.
Doohan Faces Increased Expectations
The announcement of Colapinto joining Alpine is likely to put added pressure on newcomer Jack Doohan in his first season of Formula 1.
Doohan participated in his first grand prix with Alpine at the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi after Esteban Ocon left earlier than expected. He has been contracted to compete with Pierre Gasly in 2025.
It is believed that Doohan inked a brief contract with Alpine, which allows the French company the possibility of altering their driver lineup if necessary.
Ensuring that Colapinto is available gives Alpine a reliable alternative in case Doohan's initial performances are not up to par.

Revving Up for 2025: Williams Sets Valentine’s Day Debut for Sainz-Led FW47
Williams has scheduled the unveiling of Carlos Sainz's 2025 car for Valentine's Day. The team has disclosed the date they plan to present their 2025 Formula 1 vehicle.
Williams is set to unveil their 2025 vehicle, the FW47, on February 14, which is four days ahead of the start of the F1 season in London.
Williams is set to reveal their new car at Silverstone, featuring a unique paint job. The team's 2025 race design will be showcased at the F1 75 Live event on February 18.
This year marks a significant one for the Williams team as Carlos Sainz transitions from Ferrari to lead their efforts in 2025, joining forces with Alex Albon.
In discussing the news, team leader James Vowles remarked, "The year 2025 holds great promise for Williams. We have excellent drivers, Alex and Carlos, talented engineers coming from various teams, and state-of-the-art facilities opening at our Grove headquarters."
In line with our recovery strategy, we've been developing our 2025 vehicle for quite a while, and I'm eager to unveil it at Silverstone on February 14.
Each member of the team is fully committed to returning the team to its rightful place as we approach the significant rule changes set for 2026. The upcoming year promises to be thrilling.
What are Williams' potential accomplishments in the 2025 F1 season?
After a lackluster performance in 2024, Williams found themselves in the ninth position in the F1 constructors' rankings, managing to stay just ahead of Sauber.
Throughout their season, they faced numerous accidents and mishaps, resulting in a costly bill for repairs.
As a result of the significant damage incurred towards the year's end, Franco Colapinto had to use parts from an older specification.
Williams is focused on the new set of rules coming in 2026.
The team from Grove will keep using Mercedes engines and is hoping they will provide an outstanding performance, similar to what happened in 2014 when Williams reached the top three in the rankings.
This could suggest that 2025 will once again be a letdown for Williams.

From Summit to Struggle: Red Bull’s F1 Dominance Wanes as McLaren Rises
Red Bull's control over Formula 1 is likened to nearing the peak of Mount Everest. "When you're almost at the top of Everest, introducing new innovations becomes extremely challenging."
Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard thinks it was bound to happen that Red Bull's stronghold in the sport would conclude after 2023. He likens this situation to being "near the peak of Everest."
In 2023, Red Bull had a remarkable season by securing victory in 21 out of the 22 races.
Looking ahead to 2024, they slipped to third place in the F1 constructors' championship, managing to win only two out of the final 14 races.
Max Verstappen managed to secure his fourth straight championship, yet Red Bull's period of supremacy had definitively concluded.
Reflecting on the challenges faced by his old team in the previous year, Coulthard admitted that Red Bull struggled significantly to bring about new developments following their history-making season.
"I've been in this field for a while and understand that past victories don't guarantee future success. Last year [2023] was an overwhelmingly successful year," he mentioned to Motorsport-Total.com.
"When you're near the top of Everest, coming up with new ideas becomes extremely challenging."
In 2024, Red Bull secured victories in more races compared to McLaren and Ferrari, despite the latter two teams ranking higher in the F1 constructors' championship.
Coulthard mentioned that the team chose a specific direction for the car's development, which resulted in it winning ten (nine) Grand Prix races, surpassing any other team.
The concept of correlation is crucial. When it is effective, it shows results, but if it fails, it highlights the complexity of the issue. If it were straightforward, one could simply provide the guidelines to an AI system.
"If it were easy, everyone would make identical cars. However, that's not how things are."
Coulthard praises McLaren's impressive recovery
McLaren has experienced an extraordinary transformation over the past two years.
In 2023, their campaign kicked off with the least competitive car, leaving Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri struggling at the rear of the lineup.
A performance boost in Austria significantly changed their season, allowing Norris to consistently secure podium finishes just behind Verstappen during the latter half of the year.
In 2024, improvements in Miami transformed them from the third quickest team into serious challengers for the championship.
Coulthard commented on the consistent capability of leading teams to maintain their performance year after year. He congratulated McLaren, praising them for their impressive comeback.
People often mention that it's been 26 years since their last constructors' championship victory. However, someone pointed out to me that they actually secured the title with Hamilton and Alonso, but it was revoked after the fact.
"I had also let that slip from my memory. Yet, setting that aside, it happened quite a long time ago."
