Mercedes to Unveil Final Major Upgrade for W15 at United States GP in Quest for Late Season Turnaround
Mercedes is set to introduce their last major improvement for the F1 2024 season at the upcoming Grand Prix in the United States.
Mercedes plans to unveil their last update for the 2024 Formula 1 season at the upcoming United States Grand Prix this weekend.
Following the Singapore race where George Russell and Lewis Hamilton secured the fourth and sixth places respectively, Toto Wolff, the team principal for Mercedes, expressed deep disappointment, describing the event as "a really painful, painful evening." In light of this, the Silver Arrows are optimistic that a significant upgrade to their W15 will enhance their performance in the competition.
The soon-to-be-released package set to premiere at the Circuit of the Americas has been characterized by Mercedes technical director James Allison as a significant overhaul in terms of design.
"Wolff noted that beginning this weekend, there's a packed schedule ahead, with six races set to take place in the coming eight weeks, culminating in the season's final race in Abu Dhabi."
"Despite being out of the running for the championship titles, there remains significant motivation to compete and the chance to make some memorable moments. Our aim is to finish the season on a high note, gain momentum for 2025, and give Lewis a memorable send-off."
"Since our time in Singapore, our team has dedicated itself to a thorough evaluation of our performance and identifying areas for enhancement. We're introducing our last set of updates for the season at the Texas race, with the goal of narrowing the distance to the leaders. This will also serve as valuable insight to steer the direction of our development efforts for the year 2025."
Mercedes secured victories in three out of the four races leading up to the Formula 1 summer hiatus, yet they could only achieve one podium finish in the next four races that followed.
Wolff admitted that to fully benefit from the upgrade package, Mercedes must excel, especially given the extra difficulty presented by Austin's sprint weekend.
"This weekend sees the return of the Sprint format, and we must excel in deploying the new update package," he further stated.
"The Circuit of the Americas offers an impressive course, yet it presented us with challenges last year. Its combination of rapid sections and uneven terrain tests the capabilities of both the vehicle and the driver. Nonetheless, it's a challenge we're eager to tackle."
