Lando Norris Backs FIA’s Move Against Red Bull’s ‘Black-and-White’ Rules Breach
Lando Norris Criticizes Red Bull's Bib Maneuver as Clear Violation of F1 Regulations
Lando Norris Applauds FIA's Response to Red Bull's F1 Car Bib Scheme.
Lando Norris commended the FIA, Formula 1's regulatory body, for addressing a clever mechanism that Red Bull acknowledged was installed in their vehicle.
Red Bull has consented to modify their vehicle following concerns raised by competitors to the FIA regarding a device in the RB20 that they believed might adjust the front ride height of the car's floor during parc ferme conditions, a violation of F1 regulations.
Before the upcoming United States Grand Prix, Red Bull acknowledged the presence of the device on their vehicle but refuted any claims of misconduct.
"A high-ranking official from the Red Bull racing team confirmed that the component does exist, but it cannot be accessed once the vehicle is completely put together and operational. They mentioned that in their extensive communications with the FIA, this issue was raised, and they have reached a consensus on a strategy moving forward."
Norris mentioned that the crackdown might ultimately benefit McLaren in his pursuit of championship contender Max Verstappen, who currently leads by 52 points with six grand prix and three sprint races left.
"Norris mentioned on Thursday in Austin that there's a difference between simply having it on your vehicle and the extent to which you actually utilize and take advantage of it, about which we are completely in the dark."
"If it has been beneficial for them, if they've been utilizing it as widely believed, then perhaps it will start to work in our favor. However, discussing topics of this nature, it's unlikely that it resulted in multiple pole positions or victories solely due to that gadget.
"In the grand scheme of things, I doubt it will make a significant difference. However, if we examine specific qualifying sessions and the narrow margins by which races have been decided this year—sometimes by mere hundredths or even thousandths of a second—then we might acknowledge that it has had some influence in one way or another."
"I believe it’s beneficial for the FIA to take this action. There’s a clear distinction between straightforward matters like these and the act of exploring the limits, inventing, and innovating within the permitted parameters."
"I believe that's where we at McLaren have excelled. We make certain not to exceed that limit."
