Grace Under Pressure: Liam Lawson Shares Insight on Daniel Ricciardo’s Supportive Words Amidst Red Bull Driver Swap Drama
Liam Lawson shares insights from his discussion with Daniel Ricciardo following the Red Bull announcement in Singapore.
Liam Lawson commended Daniel Ricciardo for his approach to the Red Bull driver change during a conversation at the Singapore Grand Prix.
During the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, there was no official announcement, but signals from Red Bull strongly indicated that Liam Lawson would take over Ricciardo's seat starting from the upcoming race.
This implied that the Australian did not receive a formal farewell.
During several interviews following the race, Ricciardo was noticeably moved as he spoke with reporters.
Lawson is set to compete in the final six races of the season with RB, partnering with Yuki Tsunoda, aiming to showcase his talent to Red Bull in hopes of securing a spot on the main team in 2025.
During a discussion with Formula 1, Lawson recounted an exchange he had with Ricciardo over the Singapore weekend.
"Fortunately, he's a wonderful person," Lawson stated. "He understood it had nothing to do with me. And that's likely the case with Daniel throughout our entire experience in this scenario.
"Throughout the past year, the sense of being in a direct rivalry has been minimal, despite the inherent competitive nature of the sport."
"Regarding Daniel, the experience was always positive; he consistently treated me well and was always ready to offer guidance whenever I was behind the wheel. Throughout the entire year, he supported me in every possible way he could."
"Thus, it didn't seem as though we were vying for the same position. Our career stages were quite distinct, which likely contributed to that feeling."
Lawson also disclosed a crucial aspect of the dialogue and Ricciardo's comments.
Lawson mentioned, “I visited him and expressed my apologies for the entire ordeal, acknowledging that it’s unpleasant, and I regret that you had to experience it.
"He mentioned that clearly, there's no animosity towards me. He advised, 'You only get one opportunity in F1, ensure you seize it,' and wished me 'good luck.'"
It appears improbable that Ricciardo will make a comeback to Formula 1 following his departure from Red Bull.
The winner of eight Grand Prix titles finds himself without any prospects for the coming year and has explicitly stated his desire to only participate in F1 if he can compete at the leading edge.
