Chasing History: Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari Move Inspired by Schumacher’s Legacy and Title Record Ambitions
Lewis Hamilton Discusses Being Inspired by Michael Schumacher's Time at Ferrari
Hamilton Has the Potential to Surpass F1 Championship Record with Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton has shared nostalgic reflections of observing Michael Schumacher race for Ferrari as he gets ready to emulate his path.
Next year, Hamilton is set to leave Mercedes for Ferrari, in what is expected to be the concluding segment of his iconic Formula 1 career.
Hamilton and Ferrari stand as the most accomplished driver and the most victorious team in the sport, respectively.
"From the instant I inked the deal, it's been an emotional whirlwind – confessing to my employer was incredibly daunting," Hamilton shared with The Times.
"It's thrilling because I recall being a child and observing Michael.
"Every motorist gazes at that vehicle, wondering, 'How would it feel to be behind the wheel in that crimson driver's seat?'"
Schumacher spearheaded a glorious period for Ferrari under the leadership of team principal Jean Todt.
The legendary driver from Germany secured five consecutive championships racing for the Italian team. He achieved a total of seven titles, setting a record that was later equaled by Hamilton.
Schumacher concluded a trio of years in retirement by joining Mercedes, where his initial efforts helped pave the way for Hamilton's subsequent achievements.
Hamilton is set to compete into his 40s with Ferrari, aiming to set a new record by winning an eighth F1 title.
"Truthfully, at this moment, I believe I'm in the best health of my life," he stated.
"I'm feeling great, both in terms of my physical and mental well-being."
"I believe my response speeds surpass those of the younger drivers. In my view, I've become a more skilled driver now compared to when I was 22."
"At that time, I was merely youthful, full of vigor, and unyielding, lacking in refinement and equilibrium. I hadn't yet learned the art of collaboration or the skills necessary to guide others."
"Excellence in racing driving isn't solely determined by speed, but by being the most versatile."
