CATL, the biggest manufacturer of EV batteries globally, has initiated a research and development center in Hong Kong. This move by CATL is a significant advantage for Hong Kong's aspiration to be a worldwide center for innovation.
The firm announced on Tuesday its intentions to initiate 75 research and development ventures at its new facility situated in Hong Kong Science Park, the city's tech nucleus. Furthermore, it aims to recruit 200 experts to carry out scientific studies and will collaborate intensively with nearby universities.
"Hong Kong's prominent role as an international financial, commercial, and maritime hub provides unique benefits for partnering with global higher education institutions, drawing in exceptional talent, and establishing worldwide networks," stated Ouyang Chuying, Co-President for R&D at CATL, during the inauguration ceremony in Hong Kong on Tuesday.
The hub will facilitate global outreach for CATL and enable it to utilize international resources to bolster China's emerging energy sector, according to him.
The agreement stipulates that HKSTP will aid CATL in discovering business growth and prospects in areas such as energy, transport, industry, and infrastructure. This will encompass promoting eco-friendly and intelligent production of new energy commodities, along with investment and development in renewable energy.
