Casey Stoner opens up about his battle with illness and his aspirations for the future

Casey Stoner aims to put health issues behind him and seek a new position mentoring upcoming riders.

Toward the latter part of his MotoGP career, Stoner was seriously affected by chronic fatigue syndrome, an issue that persists even now.

Dual-time winner Stoner stepped away from MotoGP at the age of 27 in 2012, and has since maintained a discreet presence.

"He shared on the Ducati Diaries podcast that he's still working through overcoming chronic fatigue syndrome."

The situation has improved in the last few years.

"Yet, I've experienced my fair share of highs and lows, extended times spent merely lounging on the sofa."

"I'd genuinely love to complete that."

"That's the reason I chose to distance myself completely from the realm of MotoGP and the entire sports scene."

"I found it unbearable to observe, as I was powerless to intervene or take any action."

"Significant bouts of depression began to affect me because of this. Hence, I chose to distance myself from the industry."

What's in store for Casey Stoner?

This year, Stoner took on the role of commentator and analyst for TNT Sports during the Phillip Island MotoGP event.

However, he imagines himself taking on a new role moving forward.

"Stoner mentioned, 'My interest is gradually returning as I find myself with more energy to invest in it.'"

"I'm able to understand the situation better now.

"I remain interested in collaborating with a few riders, without necessarily engaging in the extensive process of choosing them."

"I possess a wealth of contributions, offering a unique viewpoint distinct from many others."

"I believe there are specific aspects in MotoGP where I excelled more than some of my counterparts."

"I acknowledge that there are aspects I could have handled better."

"However, there are specific areas where my knowledge has greatly expanded, and aspects I've kept entirely to myself."

"I would welcome the chance to collaborate with the appropriate individuals, leveraging my extensive experience to benefit someone worthy of it, assisting them in accomplishing their objectives."
