Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia After 2024 Season, Confirms Brivio at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will part ways with Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, with the confirmation made during the Aragon MotoGP.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg would depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who joined the Trackhouse team when it originally started as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after the team's second season with the Noale brand, which is its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse in early 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision to make. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team’s efforts to explore “a new direction”.
"This [Zeelenberg's departure] is a topic we talked about," Brivio stated. "We made this choice together. Wilco [Zeelenberg] deserves significant recognition for his contributions."
To be frank, when I got here, I encountered a team that he has been developing over the years. Moreover, most of this team will remain unchanged next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts.
“As Trackhouse, we felt that looking ahead, we needed to take a different path. It’s unfortunate in one sense, but it’s a business decision in another.”
“It’s never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging.”
The future plans for Zeelenberg remain uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales within the Yamaha MotoGP factory team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team to take on the role of team manager.
