Zarco Finds New Optimism with Honda’s Updated RC213V at Misano MotoGP Test

Johann Zarco expressed optimism about the distinct sensation experienced on the Honda during the Misano MotoGP test

Johann Zarco felt upbeat following a single-day test at Misano for the MotoGP, having experimented with various new components for the Honda RC213V.

Zarco has distinguished himself as a leading figure for Honda throughout this season, particularly evident in 2024 during events such as Aragon. There, Zarco achieved a milestone by being the first Honda competitor to secure a spot in Q2 straight from the Friday afternoon Practice sessions this year.

Following Sunday's Grand Prix in San Marino, Zarco expressed dissatisfaction with the current 2024 project, labeling it as entirely non-competitive and advocating for significant modifications to the RC213V to enhance its performance. Despite the RC213V presented in Misano for the testing session not showing substantial alterations from the models used earlier in the season, including maintaining the same engine specs, Zarco's outlook was somewhat optimistic by the conclusion of the single-day testing.

"He conveyed to MotoGP.com, "Our comprehension has deepened. We experimented with three different 'blocks', gaining valuable insights. The sensation of riding the bike has notably changed for the better. However, this improvement isn't yet reflected in our lap times or overall performance, as the competition remains swift, and we haven't managed to enhance our speed."

"This sensation is crucial, and I believe we experienced this unique sensation due to the previous one being unsatisfactory and not conducive to increased speed. I'm hopeful that with what we've achieved now, it will enable us to advance further." Honda introduced innovative aerodynamic features and a fresh chassis design during the test.

"Zarco mentioned, "Our focus was on experimenting with the aerodynamics. It's pretty evident to everyone. We’ve also made adjustments to the chassis to enhance our acceleration feel, and I believe we've succeeded. The next step is figuring out how to leverage these improvements for better performance."

In response to whether Honda has a clear path for further improvement of the RC213V, Zarco stated, "I believe so. The outcome of Misano 2 will be telling. I anticipate challenges there… However, I am optimistic about seizing some favorable outcomes during the races in Asia."
