Yuki Tsunoda: Multiple Offers Before VCARB Commitment, Red Bull Remains Priority
Yuki Tsunoda discloses 'several teams made contact' prior to joining VCARB
Yuki Tsunoda emphasizes that Red Bull remains his "main focus" and shared that multiple teams approached him before he decided to join VCARB.
Yuki Tsunoda disclosed that he was approached by a few teams before choosing to sign with VCARB for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Tsunoda has had a successful season with VCARB, often surpassing his experienced teammate Daniel Ricciardo.
Although Tsunoda performed well in the first half of the year, he was not considered a candidate to take over Sergio Perez's position at Red Bull.
According to reports, Sauber/Audi showed interest in Tsunoda while considering alternatives in case they couldn't secure Carlos Sainz.
During the most recent episode of the Beyond the Grid podcast, Tsunoda shared his thoughts on his remarkable performance this season.
"I suppose I'll just continue with my current approach. I've been demonstrating my worth since the start of this season," he mentioned.
"A few teams also contacted me to discuss various possibilities. I didn't experience this last year, particularly in the initial years. It's important to keep producing consistent results."
"Up until now, I've been able to accomplish that, but this is the first year I'm consistently demonstrating my full capabilities and achieving good results. I recognize that there are many areas where I can still get better."
"There are many accomplishments ahead for me. I just need to demonstrate to all team leaders and teams that I am a skilled driver capable of achieving great things."
Although Red Bull has once more passed him over, Tsunoda emphasizes that his "primary focus" remains the Milton Keynes team.
"The top focus is on Red Bull Racing," he stated. "This has been my goal since I entered Formula 1. The car is among the quickest on the track at the moment. However, McLaren might be slightly faster right now."
"I simply want the opportunity to race with their car and demonstrate my ability to compete for top positions, whether it's finishing in the top four, top three, or even top two. However, if that's not possible or if they're satisfied with their current drivers, then…"
"I also aim to consistently finish in the top five in the future. I hope the VCARB team can make that possible. We are making significant progress and have made considerable advancements. I'm doing my best to assist them as much as I can."
In the future, Tsunoda might become a candidate for Aston Martin, especially since the team will be using Honda engines starting in 2026.
The Japanese driver admitted that he might think about it if another promising chance arises.
"However, if there's another team that aligns with my mindset or their goals match mine, I'm open to opportunities. For now, though, my main focus is on my current responsibilities and consistently achieving results to make a good impression on everyone," he wrapped up.
