Yamaha Taps Analytical Ace Dovizioso for Crucial Jerez MotoGP Test Amid Crutchlow’s Continued Recovery
Yamaha schedules another MotoGP test featuring Andrea Dovizioso, who has taken on a role similar to that of an engineer. 'Dovi has fully committed to the project. He approaches it with a very analytical mindset, almost resembling an engineer more than a racer!'
Massimo Meregalli, the director of the Monster Yamaha team, has announced that Andrea Dovizioso’s upcoming MotoGP test will take place in Jerez this November.
If Cal Crutchlow remains unfit to compete, it might be the third time this year that Dovizioso tests the M1.
Dovi, who has finished as the runner-up three times for Ducati, recently made a covert comeback to MotoGP with a ride at Mugello. Following this, he joined Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins for a private testing session at Misano last month.
Monster Yamaha team director Massimo Meregalli informed MotoGP.com that they were fortunate to persuade Dovi to assist them, as Cal Crutchlow was not in good condition, preventing the testing team from conducting any trials at that time.
"We conducted a somewhat confidential test in Mugello with Dovizioso, and it turned out positively."
“The recent private test in Misano went well and had positive outcomes. He performed exceptionally, fully committing to the project. His approach is very analytical, almost resembling that of an engineer rather than a rider!”
"The initial impression has been extremely positive."
"We have scheduled another test in Jerez for November. If Cal is unable to participate, which is highly likely, we have already requested Dovi to step in."
Crutchlow experienced issues after undergoing 'an operation to relieve pain in his right hand,' which resulted in him being unable to participate in testing and canceled his planned appearances at Mugello and Silverstone.
Dovizioso, who experienced a significant motocross crash back in April, attended the MotoGP paddock at Misano for the San Marino Grand Prix this weekend.
