Yamaha Sees Light at the End of the Tunnel: Optimism Grows After Promising Misano Test
Yamaha focuses on "managing emotions" while spotting progress in bike development
Massimo Meregalli expressed his optimism following the Misano test
Yamaha expressed a positive outlook on their bike's progress following the MotoGP test at Misano.
The chassis from the San Marino MotoGP sprint race and a newly developed engine were tested by the Japanese manufacturer.
Alex Rins tested what has been referred to as the "prototype for the 2025 engine" and managed to significantly improve his race pace by 0.5 to 0.7 seconds.
Team manager Massimo Meregalli stated that the test plan wasn't extensive due to the fact that they had already been able to test certain items beforehand.
"Four weeks ago in Misano, we assessed the most recent, third version of the aerodynamics. A few days after that, we approved the aero package."
“In this instance, we pre-evaluated a chassis. This provided us with valuable insights.
"We began the race in the lead, which altered how we approached preparing for the Grand Prix."
"Although I make an effort to control my feelings, we notice a gradual improvement."
"Since the start of the season, we've put in a lot of effort."
"These small enhancements, which we can observe and feel, provide us with a sense of satisfaction."
“They provide extra motivation.”
Yamaha brought in Andrea Dovizioso to replace their injured test rider, Cal Crutchlow. They intend to call on Dovizioso once more for the Jerez event in November.
According to Motorsport.com, the company plans to replace their inline-four engine with a V4 engine once the 2027 regulations take effect.
It's been a while since happiness was evident in the Yamaha team's garage.
Fabio Quartararo's seventh-place result at the San Marino MotoGP last weekend, along with his tenth-place performance in qualifying and ninth place in the sprint race, provide additional grounds for hope.
