Xi Jinping Reaffirms China’s Claim on Taiwan as ‘Sacred Territory,’ Denounces Separatists in National Day Speech; Pledges Continued Support for Hong Kong and Macau
During his National Day address, Chinese President Xi Jinping issued a warning to advocates of Taiwanese independence, emphasizing that the island is considered a 'sacred territory' of China. He also reaffirmed his support for Hong Kong and Macau.
During a ceremonial event in Beijing commemorating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic, Xi declared that Taiwan is "China's sacred land" and emphasized that "the individuals on both sides of the [Taiwan] Strait share a blood bond."
"He emphasized the need to foster a sense of spiritual unity among people on both sides of the strait and to firmly reject any movements toward 'Taiwan independence' as separatist acts," he stated.
