Will Audi Wait for Red Bull’s Decision? IndyCar Champion Alex Palou Emerges as Surprise Contender for 2025 F1 Seat
Will Audi hold off for Red Bull? | IndyCar titleholder unexpectedly in the running for 2025
Audi has several potential choices for its 2025 F1 team, one of which is a champion from IndyCar.
Audi has not yet chosen the driver who will team up with Nico Hulkenberg at Sauber for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Now that Mattia Binotto is leading the team, he faces a challenging decision for the upcoming year.
Sauber might keep Valtteri Bottas, though Audi seems doubtful about the Finnish driver's potential to rejuvenate the team.
As reported by the German publication AMuS, the former management team under Andreas Seidl had informal discussions with Felipe Drugovich about potentially bringing in a younger driver.
A name that keeps coming up is Mick Schumacher.
Schumacher is now a member of the Alpine team, competing for them in the World Endurance Championship.
He is considered a 'low risk' choice, and his signing would result in the team having two German drivers.
Apart from Schumacher, Kevin Magnussen is still a possibility, but considering his performance compared to Hulkenberg, he would be a step down from Bottas.
Another aspect that Binotto and Audi need to take into account is the current state of affairs at Red Bull.
It has been reported that Sauber engaged in discussions with Liam Lawson earlier this year.
Nonetheless, Lawson is anticipated to take the wheel for VCARB at some point within the upcoming year.
Depending on the developments at Red Bull, either Daniel Ricciardo or Sergio Perez might become available.
Perez's position at Red Bull remains uncertain even though the team has expressed their support after a challenging Belgian Grand Prix.
In the same way with Ricciardo, who still needs to prove to Red Bull that he’s prepared to rejoin the primary team.
According to AMuS, Audi might benefit from waiting to determine if Perez, known as the ‘king of the midfield,’ or Ricciardo become available.
A surprising contender is Alex Palou, who has twice won the IndyCar championship.
The 27-year-old racer from Spain has secured the previous two IndyCar championships and is on track to claim a third consecutive title.
