Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia After 2024 Season, Confirms Davide Brivio at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the leader of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team back when it was initially known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will be departing from the satellite Aprilia project. This marks the end of the team's second season working with the Noale brand and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio—who became a part of Trackhouse in early 2024—shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a "very difficult" decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team's effort to explore "some different direction".
"We talked about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio stated. "We made this choice together. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I arrived, I encountered a team that he had meticulously assembled over the years. Moreover, the majority of this team will remain unchanged next year, which speaks volumes about the solid foundation he has established."
“As Trackhouse, we felt that moving forward, we needed to explore a different path. While it's unfortunate in some ways, it's also just a matter of business.”
"It has consistently been a challenging circumstance, and reaching this decision has been extremely tough."
The future of Zeelenberg remains undecided. Previously a champion in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman has served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. He took up the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team in 2019.
