Wilco Zeelenberg Set to Depart Trackhouse Aprilia After 2024 Season: Davide Brivio Confirms Major Team Shake-Up at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio announced at the Aragon MotoGP that Wilco Zeelenberg is set to exit Trackhouse Aprilia after 2024.
Trackhouse Aprilia's team leader, Davide Brivio, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing the team at the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, initially joining the team when it was first formed as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, is set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project. This move comes after the team's second season partnering with the Noale brand, marking its inaugural season operating under the Trackhouse banner.
In a conversation with MotoGP.com's pit lane correspondent Simon Crafar prior to last Sunday's MotoGP event at MotorLand Aragon, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that the decision to part ways with Zeelenberg was extremely difficult. He indicated that this move was an effort by the American-owned squad to seek a new path.
"Brivio mentioned, “Regarding Zeelenberg's exit, it was a mutual decision. We came to this conclusion together. A lot of thanks go to Wilco [Zeelenberg] for his contributions."
Truthfully, upon my arrival, it was evident that he had established a solid team over time, and largely, this team will remain the same into the next year. Therefore, he deserves significant recognition for his efforts in building this group.
"At Trackhouse, we believed that looking ahead, it was necessary for us to explore a new path. While it's disappointing in one aspect, it's simply the nature of business on the other."
"The circumstances have always been challenging, and reaching this decision has been quite tough."
Zeelenberg's next steps remain undecided. The Dutch former 250cc Grand Prix champion transitioned from being a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales at the factory Yamaha MotoGP team to assuming the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team in 2019.
